Just as we might be moving Foyth to RB, we could move Ben to cover for Jan and buying Sessegnon would provide back up to D.O.F.
I understand to be loan fee of £10 million and subsidise half of his salary, said to be £600.000 per week. If that is true we will be paying a total of £530, 000 per week. It is a no at that price.
I don't think that Sissoko has replaced Dembele, because his role has been quite different most of the time. He's basically played as a holding midfielder a lot of the time, especially when paired with Winks or when he's basically played solo.
Bale can play with any combination of Kane, Lucas, Son, Eriksen, Dele and Lamela. So I would go for him and release Llorente. He also counts as club trained i think so releases an extra space in the squad. Add Sessegnon too and the attack is sorted.
The Sun are saying we'd pay £250k of his reported £600k wages, if that's true, that should be relatively easy for us considering we're paying Kane around £200k. A permanent deal I'd say no too but a £10m loan and £250k a week? It seems a decent deal.
We probably have to take into account Eriksen could be off, whilst I also think Lamela needs to be sold as despite being a fan of his he's just too unreliable with fitness but there's still some tantalising options should Bale sign. Bale, Dele, Son Kane As a front four, with Lucas and potentially Sessegnon challenging them all... That's frightful.
I just don’t like this one mate, I don’t like us loaning players in, and Poch won’t have it unless there is an option to buy included at the end, which is apparently why Tielemans didn’t come to us, because Monaco wouldn’t have that clause in. I don’t like Bale’s injury record, I don’t like the fact he’s bulked up a lot since leaving us and I think that has affected his game, I just don’t have a good feeling about it. Spurs are not a shop window for Madrid to showcase a pricy asset, they should be paying us £10m for that! He’s a magnificent player still on his day but I’m not sure he has all that many of them left in him. Look, if he joined on deadline day after we’d already secured a top tier CM, CB and RB, then I’d be fine with it. But although we’ll surely spend this summer I expect resources to still be tightly controlled, and dropping c. £20m on Bale for only a year just shouldn’t be our first priority use of those resources.
I think I just did a little wee. Stop it. You do this every bloody transfer window. I am bracing myself for a deadline loan deal for Ryan Nelson.
If the 10m loan is to pay 230K odd of his weekly wages for the season, then I could bear that. But 10m BEFORE his wage costs are even considered, that is a no from me (and I doubt any increase in shirt sales etc would cover it at the bottom line) .
The fact it's a loan is why I'm so for it. Paying £80m for him to be on £250k-£300k a week for four-five years wouldn't make any sense whatsoever as he'll probably be in a strong decline by the time he's 32ish. But a £10m loan fee for what should in theory be one of his best years as a player with wages that we can now cover? I just think it ticks a lot of boxes. He's still an elite level player and one of the best in the world on his day, and whilst assurances over his fitness would be needed, I just think it's one of the best available deals on the market for any club. A world class player on loan for a season? Yes please! At least that's how I see it. If he ends up having a great season, there's possibly potential for a second year loan because he'd be nearly 31 by then, no one will pay more than say £50m for a player of that age on a permanent deal and so if Real continue to want the wage bill reduced then a second loan would be in both clubs favour.
But it might not matter as we already have Rose, Walker-Peters, Kane and Winks. Still have a couple of slots for Association trained though and he qualifies there too.
I take your points DH, my main concerns away from the pitch (where, when he’s fit, I agree he would have a lot to offer, although I worry about his fitness) are that the resource committed to something like this has more urgent use elsewhere. If we can get that deal done as well as securing our permanent targets in a timely manner then I’m not against it per se (though I don’t like the idea of us loaning players and I don’t think Poch does either) but our priorities have to lie elsewhere first and foremost this window, surely.
No way should Spurs countenance buying Bale. Spurs already have a problem with frequent and recurring injuries, most likely due to over-exertion. So why would they break the bank to finance a move for a player with established injuries over the years? He would take up a valuable space in the squad if he's out with injuries. Take out his injury problems, I would have him back in a heart beat, again disregarding the finances!
For sure, CM and RB are still needed regardless but Bale on a £10m loan and £250k a week won't stop that. We've got the money to pay good wages now. Plus, when you think of it, the likes of GKN and Janssen, who need to be sold without the worry of replacing, coupled with Vorm and Llorente's contracts expiring, frees up nearly around £200k a week anyway, so roughly only an extra £50k gets us Bale... Piece of cake for the club nowadays what with the new stadium and this season's CL revenue.
We wouldn't be breaking the bank though, that's the thing. £10m loan fee - Piece of piss. £250k a week is just £50k more than what Kane is on and as I just said to Hudd in my last past, with Janssen, GKN, Vorm and Llorente all likely to leave, it means that we'd only be paying roughly £50k more for Bale than what those four were earning combined. Not forgetting that even if just for a season, Bale would sell a lot of Spurs shirts/ merchandise that'd recoup a nice amount of dough for the club. Having a world class player like Bale join the likes of Kane, Son, Lucas and Dele (plus hopefully Eriksen if we can keep him!) gives us unbelievable attacking options.
You’re a lot more confident on our spending power this summer than I am DH, I think last summer drove me into the ground a bit on that front! Only time will tell I guess. I think we’ll spend of course, we have to, but maybe have the resources for one big ticket transfer, the rest will need to be canny moves like stealing in for Tielemans (though he’ll still be around £40m, which is nearly our record fee) and picking up players from the Football League and less fancied clubs abroad.
I tend to agree with this. I'm not expecting any marquee signings and to be honest don't need them to make me happy. There are plenty of steals out there who wouldn't break the bank as much as they wouldn't raise too many eyebrows or headlines but who cares? Our best players were all nobodies before we signed them and look at them now. As long as we don't piss about in the window as we usually do, I'll be happy. Bale on loan would be nice but not essential, and so unlike both Levy and Poch I doubt it will happen. The likes of Grealish, Sessegnon and Tielemans wouldn't break the bank. Need to think carefully about DM as Wanyama doesn't have a future at the highest level. Then I think we'll see new contracts for Skipp & Davies and a possible extension for Goat.
