Firstly, that's assuming English clubs. Any comparison of top clubs is by CL not their mostly fake leagues. Secondly, Wenger's Arsenal won most of the FA Cups they played in. No one cared, not even their own fans. Chucked him out. Even Man Utd sacked Van Gaal he second he got back to the dressing room after lifting one. Worthless, apparently. League Cup is interesting for me just because it finishes early and doesn't have so much Wembley BS.
Anyone would use that method, PL hardest to win because consistency levels have to be kept up all season, then the knockout comp against the best teams in Europe, after that it speaks for itself, the two domestic cups, then the European charity shield then the domestic Charity shield
As regards your knockout lottery competition, it's not, teams have a fair idea who they face hence Arsenal's woes over the years for finishing 2nd in their group for years.
Where you can finish 20+ points below the actual 38 game winners Group stage where you are paired with teams you have hardly heard of two leg final rounds where some teams think they have done enough in the first leg and don't show up in the second Final.........lottery, any team can beat any other in a single game. Give me the league any day.
I did say in other leagues, it may be different. But in this country the vast majority would say PL. Arsenal fans do care about the FA Cups. They wanted him out because league titles is where he was letting the club down. LVG was chucked out because of his insanely dull football and it was never going to work in the league... once again league! The FA Cup wasn't going to compare to that, but still a valuable trophy. I kind of agree on the League Cup as far as to say it's gained in importance in the last decade. But will never be more prestigious than the FA Cup despite it losing its gloss somewhat.
That might be true if the fixture list wasn't fixed, top 6 don't play each other on first or last day of season,ok for City and Liverpool but Brighton's last 2 games was against Arsenal and City, lucky for them they didn't need anything.
True, but they finished second every year because there were two **** teams in the group. The group stages are a bit of a farce because in most you can pick the two going through before a ball is kicked, true there is the odd shock where a team ****s up but in general they are just a money spinner.
That's true enough (my brother)but the board were happy enough making the CL and making money but that's all most boards care about ie my comment earlier of no difference between 2nd or 4th.
Aye those are the top 2 competitions, but despite never winning the CL ask any Gooner which they value more right now and they'll say League Title. 15 years (and 6 years for us) bloody hell time flies.
Most of the posters on this board (not the kids) would admit they would much rather have won the PL this season than be in the CL final, to be in with a shout of both was fantastic but in reality the real supporters would have taken PL over any cup.
Far be it for me to speak for Astro, but I don't think he's saying anything he doesn't believe, or simply because Livpl didn't win the League. He's mad as a box of frogs sometimes lol but he doesn't follow convention in football which I find quite interesting tbf. Ironically he's become more bearable since Liverpool's upturn
course we would and everything you've said above is perfectly agreeable. of course it's the league first. there's quotes going back decades about it being bread and butter. then Europe, then fa cup, then league cup, then the rest do not matter one not.( super cups and shields are as relevant as preseason Emirates cup) the fa cup is now and had been seen by lfc in the 70s and 80s as in the way. it's timing now just doesn't suit unless you are out of Europe. the league cup is timed to be away from Europe and sides are winning it regularly. city, Chelsea especially. sadly the fa cup will cost teams in knockouts in europe
