I ain’t upset about anything bru. I’m happy we’re in a European final. When we were in the CL of course we didn’t want to be in the Europa league, same as you wouldn’t now.

Nobody’s fishing for praise either, that’s just your narrative. This all came about because you Spuds we’re trying to claim that losing the CL final would somehow be better than winning the Europa league.

And you rightly got laughed at for it.

 

You think you can demean a trophy for year upon year just because you think you had top 4 on lockdown and now that same trophy is your level and you want praise for it?

The Europa league is the trophy for the 33rd to 80th best teams in Europe with the 17th to 24th added at the Group stage. I'm very happy that Arsenal have finally got relegated to this level.

 

So the rest of you seriously think that being crowned as the 17th best team in Europe and being promoted to the Champions League is better than finishing 2nd just because there is a trophy involved.

 

No, but coming runners up in the Champions League or winning the Europa league does none of what you have purported.

Winning the Europa League doesnt make you the 17th best team in Europe you spaz, it makes you the winner of the Europa League.
Coming second in the Champions League doesnt make you the second best team in Europe, it makes you a team that lost a Champions League final.

When has a Chelsea fan ever begged Spurs fans for credit for finishing second in a cup competition?
No one has bigged up the Europa League, everyone will admit, its ****

Winning the Championship doesn't make you the 21st best team in England.
Coming second in the Premier League doesn't make you the second best team in England.
There is a Championship trophy and medals and all, but no-one remembers who won it. The Europa League is exactly the same. When we finally get a European Super League one of our clubs will probably win the 2nd division at some point. It will be in the record books but it won't be bragging rights against those already in the top division. It's really that simple.
And no-one is making excuses in advance.

 

Coming second in the premier league makes you the second best team in England because its a league, and you played everyone in said league twice.
Everyone plays the same teams twice, home and away.
Knockout cup competitions are completely different. Not everyone plays the same teams, and one loss on a bad day can see you leave the competition.

By your rationale, you could argue that the FA Cup winner is the best team in England, even if they finish 10th in the league.

 

OK not sure if this has been raised before but serious question...

You finish Top 4, go into the CL. Finish 3rd in your group and go into Europy. Do you not try and win it?

 

Let’s not forget that this all started because those salty spuds were trying to claim that losing in the final was better than winning the europa league

 

Of course you do, but it's still worse than being in the CL at that point.

 

Neither the Champions League, nor the Europa League are pure knockout competitions. The clue is in their names. I agree that it was wrong of me to say we would be second best but the fact remains that every club in the knockout section of the CL has qualified higher than every club in the knockout section of the EL. One cup is for the best teams, the other is like a plate competition at Rugby, reserved for those not good enough to compete at the top level. It is ridiculous to compare them.

 

If winning the europey is worse than losing in the cl how come you get a better qualifying spot cl spot as europy winners and you also get the pleasure of being entered into another competition, both of which the losers of the cl do not get
