Sadly Sternrubin does not run in the Swinton Hurdle so I've had to look elsewhere and the pin has landed on Flying Tiger. Nick Williams' Soldier of Fortune gelding has been steadily coming back to form over hurdles after an abortive chasing career last autumn and had a recent spin on the flat to put him spot on for this (finished 4th under 10 stone). He has been dropped a couple of pounds to 131 for this and that is now 3lbs below his winning mark in the 2017 Fred Winter. Flying Tiger hasn't managed to win a race since the Fred Winter, probably due to him being rated 141 after winning that but he has looked more competitive this season and hopefully track and going will suit and he can grab at least a place at rewarding odds - currently 25/1 available with Skybet.
Hello, everyone. I was going to tip one in the ‘Victoria Cup’ (how odd incidentally to name a race after a railway station. Whatever next ‘The Temple Meads Cup’?!?) but the bally thing didn’t get declared. I will, however, still nominate one running at Ascot of the morrow. INCLYNE (5.45 Ascot) – what a lovely name for a filly by the way. This old girl makes her handicap bow in this Lady Riders event. To date she has had 3 runs and achieved a formline of -845. However, the latter pair were very decent Newmarket maidens with the first of these runs (beaten just over 2 lengths) highly promising and the fact that she was very prominent in the market, last time, against subsequent Listed scorer Maqsad indicates that Inclyne may be significantly better than her opening mark of 73. Her breeding also indicates that she should be far superior to this perch as she is a half-sister to both Elm Park (Group 1 ‘Racing Post Trophy’ winner, rated 117) and Brorocco (Group 2 runner-up , rated 103). The Balding barn are also, at the time of writing, in decent form with 8 winners (including 2 yesterday) in the past fortnight. I have shook my head and rolled my eyes (may head-butt the desk in a minute as well) at the jockey booking but believe the filly should have enough in hand to overcome this. Am inclined (what, what?!?), team, to believe this one rates as a very good bet in the ‘lucky last’ at Ascot tomorrow. Good luck all.
I'm off to Haydock tomorrow, so any thoughts fully appreciated... Gonna check out the cards now, as its always good to get a few ideas in your head first...
Was hoping for a much bigger price but John Constable is very interesting in the Swinton. So well handicapped and probably laid out for this
18:30 Warwick - Salto Chisco (Old boy is very consistent and has a decent chance in this event as long as any heavy rain keeps away. Took the 10/1 which is readily available atm.)
Ripp Orf loves Ascot and his record there reads 1-3-1-2 The Elsworth horse ran well in the Lincoln but never got involved next time. His record in big fields is pretty good and he's back down on 95 in the ratings. His last win came off 93, so that's not too bad a mark and he won this race last season from Trap 13. In box 16 this time, I feel he should run well and at 11/1 he was my pick in a very open heat. 4.00 Ascot Ripp Orf 11/1
The mixed card at haddock is great , why isn’t there more of these , they seem to have plenty in ireland ?
Good morning gents, hope all is well. Just a fleeting visit from me... brother in law who works for the Alan Bailey yard has messaged me sounding supremely confident about Gnaad in the 2.20 Nottingham his words were ‘fill your boots mate’ usual wealth warnings apply and only bet what you can afford to lose. All the best.
Morning Swamy, appreciate the welcome but am not new here, have posted before just not very often and definitely no relation to QuarterMoonll why do you ask?
Mine for today. 3.10 Haydock John Constable 4.00 Ascot Kynren 4.20 Haydock Suedois And Todells at Nottingham. Good luck all. Have a good weekend
No offence intended, but you used very similar wording to that used by QMII, that's all! (Will definitely take a look at Gnaad though, many thanks.)
Ripp Orf has been a standing dish for me and I expect a nice win today at his favoured track. The one I really like is sitting at the bottom of the handicap of the Swindon.kingofthecotswolds, what a lovely name for a gelding btw. Makes his handicap debut and knowing twisters probably has a bit in hand with a 7lb claimer 50/1 ew, but comes with a wealth alert my form is shocking at the mo.
I daren't go against Buddy Holly so for me it would be 3 points on Gnaad at 10/3 and a saver of 2 points on Peggy Sue at 5/1. Thanks for the info Todell
Just the one bet for me today in the Ascot 4.00pm race where I really am putting up a 'Saturday each way value play' : Kaeso 40/1 each way 5 places. With the going at Ascot good to soft and some heavy showers forecast this afternoon a chance is taken with this one at a big price who acts on soft ground. His last run over a 1 mile he bumped in to quite a decent sort of James Tate's but otherwise a decent effort. On a mark he last won and has had 2 previous decent ish runs at Ascot suggesting he handles the track. Whether he is quite up to the level I am not sure, but jockey booking catches my eye and off a featherweight I am hoping he finishes top 5 at a big price. Not bet for me in the Swinton hurdle but looking forward to watching and have a feeling Le Patriote will run a big race. Good luck all....
Being ‘banner’ tipped by ‘The Weekender’s’ flagship (their word not mine) tipster on Wednesday hardly helped his odds (12’s at the time). 139-134-156-132(today) are the marks that he has run off in the last 4 ‘Swinton (not Swindon) Hurdles’.
We went to Haydock's first running of this type of card last year Rudey on a works do. We all had a great time, even though most hadn't stepped foot on a race course, bet on a horse, or even knew anything about horse racing, that were all going again today... Hoping for just as much fun today...
Right, these are the ones I looking at before I go... 2:00 - Sersevsky 2:35 - Jedhi 3:10 - John Constable, Thistimenextyear 3:45 - Shabaaby 4:20 - Suedois 4:55 - Politicise 5:25 - Diable De Sivola, Huntsmans Son 5:55 - Northern Beau Todays tentative picks, though if like time I went I changed my mind on a few of them...
