Cheers mate, I've already done what I set out to achieve really but I'm determined to see the full year through.
Use to go to most of the pubs you mentioned earlier myself' lived in Thornhill and worked at Vosper's so the Social Club was the place all the apprentices went every Saturday night. We could have met a few times and never knew it.
Ah the Centre Inn (Barbarellas), I was a bouncer there for six years in the late 70’s/early 80’s. Happy days!
I used to work in Pirelli General across the road as an apprentice. Friday lunchtime we could see the Centre Inn “dancers” getting changed - nice boobs - quite exciting in those days! Especially as half hour earlier we were having a beer in there & watching the girls perform.
I went out with a girl from Pirelli`s for a while - the thing I remember most about our `relationship` was her referring to me as a turd one night. It isn`t a term that was used in Scotland, so I had to enquire of her what a turd was. I can`t recall why she used that term of endearment, but it was probably warranted !
As this seems to have morphed into the pub nostalgia thread . . . . Pre Match in the late 70s early 80s was the Fitzhugh, only admitted after being 'eyeballed'. Local from the 70s on was the Maybush. Staff obviously competing for miserable bugger of the year award. Around 81-83 I was most nights seen in The Park Hotel Shirley, trying not to get thumped by the Hells Angels. My tipple was a bitter shandy which (as I required a higher alcohol level) changed to a 'boiler'* by the 80s * half of mild with a bottle of Manns brown ale on top. As I'm going tomorrow I will wander around a few old haunts before the game and relive such innocent days.
OK, no more nostalgia, just tell me where people will be going pre-match on Sunday 12th May 2019 please!
