Reds get Barca windfall as Coutinho clause is triggered
Liverpool have pocketed a £4.3million bonus after a clause in the £142million transfer of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona was triggered writes James Pearce.

The Brazilian attacker endured a miserable return to Anfield as the La Liga champions were stunned by the Reds’ remarkable fightback in the semi-final of the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Some reports suggested that Barca’s failure to reach the final would see Liverpool miss out on a potential windfall of £5million under the terms of the Coutinho deal which was agreed in January 2018.

However, the ECHO understands that a clause in fact stated that 5million Euros (£4.3million) would be paid to the Reds if Ernesto Valverde’s side reached the quarter-finals of the competition this season.

With Barca having achieved that before being sensationally dumped out, Liverpool have still secured the hefty windfall.

England will only get a fifth team in the Champions League if a club who finish outside the top four win one of the tournaments.

Arsenal are likely to finish fifth (or sixth if Manchester United overtake them on the final day). The Gunners are three points and eight goals behind Tottenham with one game left.

That would mean they need to win the Europa League to qualify for next season's Champions League. In the unlikely event that Tottenham finish fifth, then Mauricio Pochettino's side would need to win the Champions League. Otherwise fifth spot means a Europa League place for next season.

In 1990 Italian clubs won all three European trophies. The final of what is now the EL involved Juve against Fiorentina. Milan and Parma were the winners of the EL and ECWC respectively. However, alas for Italy this did not carry over into theWorld Cup.

first off its not an English final, it's a European final.

therefore the host country gets some and people across Europe have a right to some tickets.

if it were just for the two teams they could play home and way just like the rest of tournament... the point of a neutral.final is to share the joy round Europe.
