In The Chester Cup Austrian School and Cleonte are supposed to be "Well In" because their marks should be higher after good runs last time.

Austrian School is short enough and they were saying at one stage that he might not run in this. For me, the concern with Cleonte is the soft ground because he has little form on it so far. He has Trap 1 on his side but he's only won three of his 21 races and has been beaten favourite more times than I like to see.

I wanted to play something at big odds for an interest and ended up with one of Johnston's others. Not the keenest fan of "Always Trying" but I felt Lucky Deal might have a squeak. He's held by the Fav on their Musselburgh runs but it's further this time and softer. Lucky Deal is yet to try the going conditions but if he takes to it it may prove a great leveller in negating the draw because they were well strung out in the later races at Chester today and other factors may outweigh the draw. In any case Who Dares Wins placed third in last year's race from the same box 15 Lucky Deal will come out of tomorrow.

Lucky Deal has been reasonably good at placing in his races and has won 5 of his 18 starts. He kept on well in second over 2 miles at Ripon last time and aged 4 he is co-youngest in the field. At 22/1 I would rather waste a few quid on him for something to watch.

3.35 Chester Lucky Deal 22/1

The interesting horse here is WHISKEY SOUR. Backed down to favourite to win the county hurdle at Cheltenham, he finished just out of the money,he then failed to win a minor race at Cork when odds on. Interesting booking too, this is Atzeni's only ride of the day.

This one won't make you rich but it really should be winning so the price is quite generous.

3:10 Ascot - Aplomb 3/1

I tell you what, not only was it raining it was ridiculously cold !
Surely the board are all over Who Dares Wins for the Chester Cup - I can't see how anyone on here would suggest any other horse!
In the opener at Chester, once again we have a hot favourite, but I'm taking it in with Cold Stare.

At Market Rasen, I'm interested in Van Gough Du Granit in the 2.10

Ascot is a complete minefield, not for me.

Good Luck all.

Well I’m on I note that Jenkins, Rather Be, Rich Richtea’s Palixandre, Dream Du Grand Val, and, of course, Claimantakinforgan are amongst a wodge of animals from Seven Barrows off to the old sales at the end of the month.

The Lieutenant obviously plans to clear the old decks, get some new ammo and then try to reclaim his title.

Why the confidence if you don't mind my asking? It didn't even make my shortlist when looking at that race. Is it just a big fancy of yours or do you have some inside knowledge?
I'd have it between the top three in the market and if the surprise is to come from anywhere I'd throw Making Miracles out there as the upset

One forum member (I seem to recall him being much loved and highly respected) used to go a bit giddy every time it ran. Who Dares Wins has in the past been mentioned an awful lot on here.

afternoon,fellas!

market rasen,1 40:

a bit of guesswork involved here,as its hard to evaluate these on recent form, but i think, ST GALLEN makes some appeal, based on his good irish form,on the flat and over hurdles too.has gone to a very good yard, and richard johnson takes the ride,so theres some kind of confidence behind him..

The first race at Chester looks a good one. Looks very competitive and one of those races where you couldn't rule any of the runners out with 100% confidence. Some might say a minefield.

Richard Hughes with a short price (in comparison to the rest) favourite. Cold Stare for the in form O'Meara, Shady McCoy usually a model of consistency even if he struggles to win and Dragons Tail with the very much in form De Sousa up both at a decent price. Further down the betting there is Calder Prince at around 20/1. Failed to see out the 7 furlong trip on Wednesday but that was it's first run in 8 months and the fact that it runs only two days later over the same trip could suggest they think this horse has a race in it and should strip fitter for Wednesday's run. The other one I'm drawn to is Another Batt at around 14/1. Yard 'second string' with the stables jockey been on the fav but I'd take James Doyle over most 'first choice' jocks anyway. The horse won as recently as January and didn't run too badly last time out in a big field.

Tough race but hopefully it's not one of those where I've tried to look for something at a price and fav romps it.

My selections

Calder Prince 20/1 ew
Another Batt 14/1 win
Reverse forecast

Minefield as expected. Mine ran a shocker

rasen,2 10:

hard to desert my old friend midnight shoot, but he has to show more,to get competitive here.that is not out of the question, but too much of an risk for me today.COMPADRE,on the other hand, gets an awful lot of weight from him,and has already won twice here this season.up another 11 lbr in a better race, but he cant be ruled out in his current form.big shout.

I'm on sporting boy 9/1. Good luck

No I'm not. I've chosen Elkstone, by mistake. God knows how that's happened.

Morning

2.00 Ascot-Star Alexander

Each Way @ 7-1 [Skybet]

Clive Cox on record as saying his 2 year olds are a nice bunch this season

Went off 6-4...but looked first beat before keeping on at one pace to get 3rd. Soft ground might have not suited her
