Bloody hell.. I have known Sammy for many, many years.. I knew he had a severe stroke a few weeks back, but this is the first I have heard about him dying.. His brother Herby died just a few weeks back too..

Looks like the original post on RTG which announced this was premature.. One of his relatives has informed me that he is very poorly but still alive..

Hope he pulls through god bless. At West Brom for a cup tie in the 70's he ran straght across the pitch in the middle of the game into their end. At Leicester he nicked a hamburger stall....madness but what a laugh.

We were in a Scunthorpe pub when bricks came through the windows. It was Leeds come for a fight.

Sammy launched himself through a window, screaming and shouting 'Haway lads' ... we just followed <laugh>

Spuggy was not a football fan, but was more known as a local gangster..

Very sad news.....RIP LAD...among fans you were a legend. The sight of you running across the pitch into the West Brom end will never be forgotten. This lad had some nads...frightened of no one....god bless.

My Dad knew of him and had nothing but respect for him - but also told me never to be like him!!!

RIP Sammy - you were a legend to a lot of people - I'm a little young to remember your antics though
