I wonder how far some of them got? This Man City fan didn't get far, leaving before the VAR ruled out their goal: Still funny!
It’s based on success/failure from similar positions across thousands of similar chances. It’s really only meant to be used for betting probabilities but has somehow become a thing.
Or that ****ing 0-1 game where your boys beat us at St James in '95 which meant you won the title that year. We utterly battered you, one-way traffic all match. You scored, you won and clinched a tight title race. blah blah fine margins etc etc, you got more points than us and deserved the title. Just how it is. ****s.
There's definitely no "deserve" about xG, but you can use it to show you were in the game even if you don't score, and if the actual scoreline is a lot different to the xG then you can say the result "flattered them"
Mate, putting the ball in the back of the net is a pretty key part of the game. I wouldn't say that alone can be used to say it flattered them. Also as some have mentioned earlier, it really is subjective. Fwiw Athletico Madrid under Simeone a few years ago were the bane of Barca. They seemed to get the better of them because they did what Liverpool tried to do last week. Very similar tbh. But Athletico Madrid were just more effective.
Everybody ready for some nice non-partisan commentary and punditry from a well balanced panel of ex-players?
Couldn't break into a Sheffield United side who were performing very well and played without wingers.
