I'm usually the last person to stick up for the Scousers but playing devil's advocate they did pull in over £250m for Suarez, Stirling and Coutinho, so their net spend might not be quite so high.
Compared to over half a billion on a squad already containing Kompany, Fernandinho, David Silva, De Bruyne, Sterling and Aguero.
I have found a cure for anyone with lingering hopes that Liverpool will & should win the title. Clear you mind, now imagine Lovren lifting the trophy. While he's there, nothing but failure is acceptable. And after, well, I'll cross that bridge another time.......
And then declaring how leaving the saints was fully justified and that without leaving them he wouldn't have made it as the best defender in the world
Gotta say, Liverpool are redeeming themselves bit by bit each time they field an England youngster. Started with Alexander-Arnold and Gomez, and if Brewster plays tomorrow night, that'll be another. The day they have more English academy players in their team than ex-Saints, might just be the day I fully forgive them.
I don’t bear ill will towards Liverpool, per se, although they have behaved shabbily. I just don’t want Lovren, Lallana or Van Dijk to collect a winners medal, simply because of the ****ty way they treated our club, in order to leave. Clyne, Oxlade Chamberlain (I don’t hold him responsible for his dad) and Mane can win a hatful of medals because they left with respect. Hopefully, this summer will see Lallana and Lovren shipped out to lesser teams, reducing their chances of silverware, then it will just be VVD left to snarl at when they do win something.
The Lallana situation wasn't as bad as people think / have been told. He was made several promises that were broken and towards the end the club did not treat him with the respect he arguably deserved after serving us so well. Most fans only hear half the picture and therefore draw the wrong conclusion.
I don't care what promises were broken - refusing to play for our club, signing Liverpool shirts as a saints player, and saying 'I hope so' when asked about a move to Liverpool is enough to make me hate him.
You are correct SA!! Pity when their hatred is completely unfounded. What is it in the footballing psyche where we wish our neighbours all the worst. It is understandable with Celtic-Rangers but the one between Tottenham and Arsenal is incomprehensible as it is nothing to do with religión or politics. Both are North London, both attract fans across a diverse range of ethnicities, across all walks of life, from the same Boroughs and beyond.
Well that in itself shows what I mean. The whole "refused to ever play for Saints again" is just not true. As for him saying he wants to move to Liverpool... god forbid a footballer actually be honest with fans! Would you have preferred a generic "I'm just focused on Southampton blah blah" and then he leaves a week later?
Very good. This isnt my opinion or public knowledge. Just what I have been told by someone very close to him. The echo spread is a funny one - fans criticise him for it by why would he bother doing it if he didn't care for the club?

What like saying if offered to finish his career at Southampton he'd 'snap your hand off'? That kind of generic bullshit?
