Getting in a little early with the matchday thread to share this absolute beauty from Marcelo Bielsa: Our final 90 minutes of Championship football. Can't remember a season like it with everything apart from the final play off berth already decided. Would expect some trouble from frustrated Leeds fans.
Maybe we can scrape a draw if Leeds field a reserve side ahead of their play off campaign? Leeds only need a point to guarantee third, and I'm sure they'd prefer a semi-final against Derby or Middlesbrough rather than facing a resurgent Villa again, but over two legs. I feel quite bad for the thousands of Leeds supporters that purchased tickets for this one, hoping to witness automatic promotion. Will they still make the trip down for what has turned into almost a dead rubber fixture for them?
One thing we know about Leeds fans is that they come in huge numbers and they are the most vocal in the country. They will come and it is going to make for a hell of an atmosphere.
I think results at the weekend have let us off a potential thrashing. Will Leeds try to protect their squad for the playoffs or go for it to build up their momentum?Either way I think we'll see another disappointing performance from the Blues.1-3 defeat?
God, I remember battles with Leeds of old, when we relished such games, their raucus fans, exciting matches, always stuff on the pitch, you knew they had been to PR! How times have changed!
Hoping for a good game, as long as we get the point required. Hopefully a few goals. Always liked Ipswich some great games over the years ,made a few trips in the late 70's, even though PR hasn't been a happy hunting ground for us at times. Remember the 2000 season when you'd just come up and you came to ER and beat us 2-1, your fans probably bought the most I ever remember you bringing and were very vocal, probably the best that season. Good luck for next season, hope you go straight back up but it won't be easy, as Sunderland have found out.
To be fair Gessa I don't think there's many people who think its going to be easy, our useless owner who got us into this position to start with hasn't promised a decent transfer fund or any at all,so it's going to be tough for our young boys and deadbeats.
The deadbeats and journeymen is what you need to rid yourselves from, they poison a club, did it to us for years, you'd think these managers and owners would learn. Tbh, I know very little about your current predicament but from what I've read, it doesn't look good, Evans' 5 point plan from 2016, certainly isn't working. Without sounding patronising, what is the situation and is there a light at the end of the tunnel. I see big Mick gets some stick, is that because he bought the journeymen in, in the first place - bit of a trait of his.
Without going over old ground and stirring up controversy Mick’s whole philosophy was built on journeymen capable of stifling all life (and enjoyment) out of a game of football. Whilst we were never going to get relegated under Mick his brand of unfootball drove away long-standing fans in their droves and eventually drove a big wedge dividing the Club from top to bottom. It’s been mentioned elsewhere how the Clubs he leaves invariably suffer relegation shortly thereafter. If you mention light at the end of the tunnel to most Town fans at present they’ll just expect it to be an approaching train to finish us off!
The light at the tunnel is Blue Action and the incredible support and the legacy of the club and all the ex pros who are engaged now more than ever. I can’t believe the season ticket sales. Well I can... There is something special about Ipswich Town and that’s what Evans needs to get his head around.
Evans has had 13 years to realise this hampy, he thought he would breeze into the Club and promotion would rapidly follow then sell the Club for a huge profit, its also extremely difficult to get your head around anything when its firmly planted up your arse.
