I'm not sure what point you're trying to make, but when I turned over to watch match of the day and the proms was still on, I did see a woman wearing a hijab (head scarf) in the crowd at the Royal Albert Hall.

Remember Britain as it used to be? When is this? When we all dressed in animal skins and ran around as savages or when we used to keep a chamber pot under the bed at night before emptying it out of the window in the morning?

You're opening up a whole can of worms with this post. Britain is now a multicultural society and is better for it. The fact that the vast majority of the audience at the Albert Hall were white is more a reflection of the elitist nature of the event at that venue. The crowds at the open air venues were much more eclectic.

If I've got the wrong end of the stick and have completely misunderstood your post then I apologise.

Ah, now I get it (I think)

Apart from the STAR pianist being Chinese
Apart from several members of the Orchestra being Asian (3rd Violin) an also some coloured mebers of both Orchestra and Chorus

Apart from several Japanese and ?? Korean members of the Audience!

Re being elitist NOPE - I went on Friday to see Nigel Kennedy, forget that he is a Villa fan, and an ageing Punk, he is a Maestro.

The last night of the Proms always strikes me as being a bit elitist when you have a look around the audience, but certainly not the open air venues. Of course, I just basing that on stereotypes which is out of order! <doh>

I was discussing it with the missus last night and she was even more scathing, saying it was "a representation of everything that is wrong with the country at the moment with an audience made up almost entirely of upper middle class Tory tosspots!" :emoticon-0136-giggl

Since the invention of the raft this has been a multicultural society.

StokieSmit - I agree with you AND your Wife.

I loathe the Last Night of The Proms, I turned it off after the version of Britten's The Young Persin's guide to the Orchestra - complete with Poetry.

The Jingoism and flag waving are for me, a no no, as for Rule Britannia - what a Royal Navy with 4 Frigates and a couple of submarines - yea right!!

Should be an Anthem for OUR ground eh?

    Have a good toryless day.

Totally disagree with Stokiesmit, his wife and once again oldnickyb, there`s nothing wrong with being patriotic, liking a good sing-song .How do you know how those taking part vote Tory? Multiculturalism is not a success in this country,it`s caused nothing but resentment ,Ask the victims of 7/7 if it`s worked.Personally I`d like a Labourless day!!

    Cheers Nick.

I only posted because I couldn't quite believe the first post. I can't understand how anyone cannot think our country isn't better for all the variety of lifestyle and culture we have. It's only a few misgiuded people who spoil it for the rest of us.

Me too Stokie, racist rants have NO place ANYWHERE!!

Re Asians - I remember Frankie Soo!!

Joe - I did NOT mention patriotism, I mentioned Jingoism, that's a completely different thing, oh and by the way I served for 12 years in the Royal Navy, when we had one - how about you??

    Huthy me too mate..
Come to think of it... it was erm FIVE TOO FOUR ON Saturday.. me and my Daughter we're about to walk down the Aisle spelling <doh>
The priest said... can you please all turn of your mobile phones during the wedding ceremony and just too let you all know that Stoke are winning
one nil v Liverpool right at this moment, now we welcome the bride and I walked down the Aisle spelling with the BIGGEST Smile you have EVER seen.

Absloute classic... And all of that is true, I kid you not.

Must admit though that at least twice during the actual ceremony which finished and 4:55 I did wonder if we had held on for the win.

Of course, the more the evening went on, the more <cheers> I got through... I missed the Proms.. <laugh>

    Jowler - crab = RAF ???

Re Bedford the River Ouse is navigable out to the Wash - in a rowing boat!!

That sums up the RN right now.

Too true about humour and a quick tongue, you certainly had to stand your corner on the mess deck, that's for sure and the same goes for all Service Life!!

I don't usually mention it but I get amused by being told I am not patriotic by someone whose idea of danger is a night out in Hanley!

    Nick,

Yes RAF, for my sins. A good life, I would recommend it too most, it certainly broadened my horizons.
