As if Prince Khalid Abdullah hadn't already enough talent at his disposal, Sporting Life reports this morning that Frankel's full brother, Noble Mission, will likely make his racecourse debut in October. http://www.sportinglife.com/racing/...E=racing/11/09/10/RACING_Mission.html&BID=465 Like Frankel, Noble Mission is by Galileo out of Kind and like his famous brother he is owned by Prince Khalid Abdullah and trained by Sir Henry Cecil. They say lightning doesn't shout twice but surely his debut will be keenly anticipated. Princess what are the gallop rumours around Newmarket? Also how likely is Noble Mission to develop into something approaching his brothers ability?
I read another forum with a poster supposedly 'in the know' re the Juddmonte operation. The reports seem to be that he is useful but not quite matching up to the lofty expectations placed on him. In other words, promising, but no second coming of the wonderhorse himself!
Zenyatta I guess he is not as far forward as Frankel was as a 2YO otherwise we would have seen him by now. I guess time will tell but it would be very surprising if he were as good as his brother
Hmm. Ho many full brothers of good horses do well? Probably haven't been may but I don't recall any major successes. Have there been any notable successes/failures?
Ron in my callow youth I remember placing an Ante Post bet on Nashwan's full brother to do the Guineas / Derby double. I think he came third in a listed race but that was about it.
To quote Henry Cecil "He is more forward physically than Frankel was at this stage", which sounded frightening! However, realistically he is not going to be the second coming of Frankel.
Henry has always been fairly positive about the horse and I'm on friendly terms with his secretary who is likewise. The likelihood of him being the second coming his small, but you never know. One of the things that keeps racing interesting is that there are no guarantees: just because a horse is a full-sibling to a good horse doesn't mean he'll be any good. Take DUBAI MILLENNIUM, his dam Colorado Dancer visited Seeking the Gold 5 times after producing DM, and if memory serves me correctly only 1 ever made it to the racecourse - DAHJEE who raced once (I think) before picking up an injury and being retired to stud in Japan. On the other hand, you do have a handful of top broodmares who just keep throwing winners - HASILI and URBAN SEA being the two prime examples.
Thanks Princess, interesting they have entered him in the Racing Post Trophy as well as the Dewhurst, given they have kept Frankel at a mile
noble mission v born to sea in next years guineas? would love to see that. was a very very taking performance from sts and galileo's half brother, hopefully frankels half brother can show he has inherited some of his families genes and then they two can face off in next years mile races.
Noble Mission is Very Average at this point.. and I passed on / advised Frankel to win on debut ! Will try to keep you all upto date.
Chances must be slim but you never know. First wonder horse's full brother I remember was Nijinsky's brother Minsky, who had some ability but was a bit of a ratbag. Nashwan didn't have a full-brother, which is strange that they didn't send HoF back to Blushing Groom. Not wonder horses but pretty good were Ribocco and Ribero who in consecutive years both won the Irish Derby and the St Leger. From memory Ribocco was the better 2yo. Shergar had a full-sister that didn't run. El Gran Senor had countless fullbrothers and sisters the best of which was Try My Best. Dancing Brave had some decent fbs and fss but none quite up to his class. We all know the Galileo story as pN says. I'd guess the two most important full brothers in the history of racing (and certainly breeding) are Fairway (probably the better racehorse) and Pharos, both by Phalaris out of Scapa Flow. They were both excellent racehoses but their impact on the breed has been immeasurable. Pharos through his son Nearco is of course totally dominant today, but there was a time when Fairway through the Fair Trial line was very strong. I'm sure pN can tell you more.
Must've been a half brother I backed Bustino ............... can't for the life of me remember the name. Was rubbish though
Was it Mukddam? I seem to remember him being a promising 2yo but not cutting it as a 3yo. He was Height of Fashion's next foal after Nashwan.
Mukddam yes that's the one. The bloke at Ladbrokes was struggling to kep his face straight as he offered my 66/1 for the Guineas / Derby double.
