In my experience, 'asian' shopkeepers are are usually of indian origin, and usually sikh/hindu or of no fixed faith.

Well, you were quoting your experience, which is in Hull. I can thinking a couple in Brid, though one changed hands a while ago and I don't know who took over as it isn't my nearest. The owner of one used to come into my local until a new landlord upset everyone and the pool and darts teams left and hardly anyone returned when the landlord left and another came in.There was one owned by a woman who was a Muslim. I recall her as at a licensing hearing they had to provide an interpreter despite her having lived in this country for 38 years. A couple of Muslim owned restaurants at least serving alcohol as well. I once made a faux pas with the brothers who owned one of them when I was sorting their insurance out and started filling in the forms and asked what their Christian names were. They pissed themselves laughing and got me a lager from the bar.
