We always differentiate ourselves from Millwall by saying that violence and vandalism follow Millwall around like a bad smell …. you can not then turn round and say that these actions are fine if these people happen to be following Charlton...

    No, it cuts both ways.

I speak from experience (unlike some elsewhere) of having followed Charlton away regularly since the 1980s. For years I cringed at the very elderly, unrepresentative away following - always the same 200-300 people with yes, their tartan blankets & flasks. Thank fvck this has changed in the last 3 years and we now have an away support that looks & behaves like ...guess what ..,that of other clubs.

We should be a broad church in the away support and there should be a place for all types, but we really do have our share of middle aged, badly dressed bedwetters following us.

    PS-

I see Elf’s is over on CL now, trying to remain relevant despite posting stuff that is completely irrelevant - at least he is ruining another one of their threads and not one of ours <applause>

    ....is an oxymoron.
I read an article recently about what it's like to be an adult bedwetter, with no hope of a cure, and no hope of having a relationship let alone a family. It really is a cruel genetic condition to have.

I don't want our supporters to be elderly and have a tartan blanket nor a flask of bovril. I also don't want our supporters to rip up seats, smash up the toilets and overturn pool tables and frighten female landladies. That is not acceptable behaviour. You can show your passionate support without resorting to criminality.

I was going to football in the 1970's & 1980's when going to away matches was genuinely frightening at times.. do I want those days to return?... No

    100% Mr Plumb.

Although I have got used to our ageing away support, we'll always be trainspotters and anoraks.

Seemingly Mr van Gerwen has a differing view.

    He's probably old B-Mob.:emoticon-0165-muscl

It was nothing like that yesterday. As you can see from the photo, I was in the midst of it, and didn’t feel remotely threatened.

It’s a cultural clash amongst Charlton fans more than anything. The younger and more passionate element yesterday were all well dressed in designer gear - the bedwetters - headed up by the VOTV editor - dress like they ain’t got two bob between them (I hate scruffy people) and share a Primark loyalty card. Strange that ....

There are some places where I dress up smartly to visit, but a football match is not one of them. No-one has been offended to my knowledge.

I didn't know that watching Charlton was a fashion parade. Perhaps I need to dig out my smoking jacket and silk cravat.

Apparently the next home game is a black tie event. The dress police will be there:emoticon-0107-sweat. This also applies to away fans, who will be allowed to trash The Valley as long as they obey the dress code.

Given your distinguished thespian career, I expected nothing less anyway. Accompanied by an enamel cigarette holder.
