no worries<ok> can get confusing on here <ok>

in terms of 'best' its not a starightforward answer. some people see the american army as being the 'best'. in terms of weaponry etc it may be a valid argument
in terms of soldiers meh. same for the brits

if i was voting for bravery, and from the little i know, i would say the gurkha's were in with a shout

Let me be clear, I'm not talking from the point of view of an ex-soldier, merely as a person with an interest in military history, (and some knowledge of the Military and Special Forces in general) but the fact is no one chased the SAS out of South Armagh or anywhere else. For them to be chased out of anywhere, one would have to accept that they had a say in such matters and the simple fact is that individual soldiers of the SAS (or any unit) had no say in the deployment to South Armagh or anywhere else. You get sent, you go, it's as simple as that.

I don't know exactly how many SAS men died in NI on duty but it certainly was not a huge number, maybe if a large number were killed there would be some reason to argue that they were wary of being deployed but even then that would be doubtful. SAS soldiers are not supermen nor are they completely fearless - no one is - but the type of man who would be attracted to the SAS is not very likely to be phased by the thought of soldiering in Armagh, if he was then he simply would not have been selected in the first place.
