On our first C2C we stayed at the Bonny Moor Hen, in Stanhope, before tackling Crawleyside first thing . . . . it is definately appropriately named. Did you notice signs on a couple of gates asking that you don't lean on them for a rest
Ha, we stopped in the same place. The Bonny Moor Hen. i didn't notice the gates, my mind was focused on the two feet of tarmac in front of me.. absolutely brutal hill, but worth the view on top as was the pint at Granny Annies..
If you think its bad going up you want to try going down it in a 38 ton wagon. This was in the eighties and my ringpiece is just starting to calm down now! They had to change the seat in that wagon because something had been chewing it
Due to popular demand, the premier concourse will be open when Sunderland AFC host Portsmouth at the Stadium of Light on Saturday (KO 3pm). Almost 40,000 tickets have already been snapped up for the seismic Sky Bet League One clash, with both sides gunning for promotion as the season reaches its climax. The clubs have battled at the top throughout the campaign, but the stakes have never been higher than they are heading into this weekend’s SoL showdown. Just two points separate the sides in the League One standings, but eyes from both camps will also be looking to Oakwell, as fellow contenders Barnsley take on Blackpool. SAFC’s executive director, Charlie Methven, said: “Tomorrow is a fantastic opportunity for the SAFC community to come together, with over 40,000 supporters expected to be at the Stadium of Light for a massive game between two grand old clubs. “We have blown the average attendance record for the third tier out of the water, and to have potentially clocked up two 40,000-plus attendances within one season tells you everything you need to know about our magnificent support.” Tickets are available from £22 for adults and just £10 for under-16s, but supporters are advised that cash turnstiles will NOT be in operation and they must have a previous purchase history with the club. To secure your seat, please visit our 24/7 online ticketing service. Supporters can also purchase tickets from the SoL ticket office on Saturday from 9am to kick-off, but please arrive early as queues are anticipated.
After Pompey lose today, they get Peterborough next. Borough will definitely be up for that contest as they currently trail 6th place Doncaster by just 3 points and they have a game in hand on Doncaster as well. I like our chances in the first round of the play-off against a 6th place team which had to work very hard down the stretch just just to make it into the play-off. A win today, and 4 points from our last two matches, will likely set us up for, at the very least, another penalty shoot out at Wembley.
Historically it is those teams that just make the last spot are the hardest teams to play. Teams like ourselves will be licking our wounds after fighting for promotion all season and just missing out. That can be mentally draining to then have to find something within to go out and give your all for yet another few games. The team that finishes 6th have normally come into form and just caught that spot. They've got momentum and a new lease of life with the sudden realisation that they could actually be promoted in a few games without ever seriously thinking throughout the season that they could be playing in a higher division.
Absolutely. Amazing how a team which has had to push to make that play off spot a Ways seems to have enough in the tank. That said... historically the third place team goes up more often than any other. Talksport were on about it the other day and there was a great suggestion. Instead of th play offs bing what they are, third place, as they are the third best team in the league, go straight to the Wembley final. The other three 0lay a mini league format to see who plays them. Not really apt that a team (championship wise) with 15 points separating 2 teams, why should third have the same rigmarole as 6th?
Pretty sure I remember a championship season, when , I think WestHam, for 45 games were never in the top 6. Last game, they scored a winner late on, whilst a team/teams above conceded late, and they got into 6th place with just about10 mins of the season left. Then won playoffs. I'll check this later.
The playoff record for our league is... 3rd place have gone up 9 times. 4th and 6th place have gone up 8 times and 5th have been gone up 5 times. I don't like messing about with the system, tbh. Every team knows the rules at the start of the season so it's up to them to nail the top 2 spots, if they don't like the lottery of the playoffs. Barnsley, Ourselves, Charlton and Portsmouth have all been very similar, this season. I don't think any of those clubs deserve an unfair advantage over the rest if they just grab that 3rd spot which will probably be on goal difference, or just by a point.
That’s right, at season start, you have to accept that if you don’t get 1st or 2nd, you might as well be called equal 6th.
No pills for me lads but a drink tonight, just being very positive and Barnsley WILL slip up, but we must win our games of course which we will ! the table should look like this before next Sunday. ------------------P-points Luton --------45--91 (lose to burton today) Sunderland 45--90 Barnsley-----45--89 draw today Portsmouth45 -89 all one match left
