I liked Skyfall alot, I think it was the best of the Craig ones. Spectre was OK too, not going to be a longtime classic of the line like Skyfall though.

The original few Daniel Craig ones went too PC and it wasn't really Bond anymore. Tall dark and handsome became, shortish, light haired and rugged. The womanizer became a not so womanizer. The toys became less toyish. They made him more realistic, more soldiery than charming and witty. The flashy became gritty.

It wasn't Bond anymore, it was a generic spy film with someone named Bond in it.

Skyfall felt more Bondish to me. They returned to their roots. Spectre too was a return to the Bond roots but just wasn't as good. It always felt more like a part one of a two part story. I half expect them to bring back the living cast of Spectre for Spectre part two in the next film.

Most of that is generally positive traits too, which I'm sure helps somewhat with the negative ones.

I've seen that with being British in the US, everyone assumes you are classy, erudite, and good mannered before they even know you....of course they also assume you have bad teeth and are eccentric too.

Craig is the closest to the books as in character.

Maybe Matttttth was hoping for a female bond, maybe Bee Arthur ?

Yeh it was. There was no sense of what Bond was to become so no formula. When he interrogates one of the characters, he just shoots him afterwards. Good stuff.

They did something similar in Casino Royale when Craig needs 3 kills before he becomes a double 0. I had hoped they carried it on like that but they bottled it and made him all ethical ffs.

Dr No also had the best introduction of Bond in any film at the casino table.

The silenced pistol scene in the bedroom is one of my favourite Bond scenes.

    That's the one.

My favourite is Diamonds are Forever simply because it's the first one I remember seeing as a kid on the telly. Pure nostalgia and it's not quite the same as when I saw it as a kid, but still.

    Cool film.

The first film I actually watched as it came out was Goldeneye.

    Prosnan's best imo.

Agree, that whole opening scene from the bungee jump to the skydive was one of the best openings to a Bond film.

It's a shame about Timothy Dalton being a **** Bond because both Living Daylights and License to Kill in particular were excellent scripts.

I've read that before... And presumably they were trying to reinvent TV bond to be more like the book. They should have done that decades ago if they wanted to do that.

He completely broke the mould of the TV version that most people had come to know... And the character that audiences came to see. It was a bit to late to make the change. People know TV Bond better than Book Bond now. It's hard to sell a change to a character so well known.

Craig was certainly more believable than previous Bonds... But I don't think people go to Bond for believable.

It was to redress the OTT nature of the way the Brosnan bond films had become. Invisible car for example was just going too far.

They need to get the balance right with the next Bond. Not too serious, but not totally unbelievable either.

Maybe appeals to a certain market, especially those who have read the books. Definitely felt he was way more realistic, a lot more depth to the character. I grew up watching the bonds but much prefer the Craig version, just depends on what you like really.

The main thing for me is that Idris Elba isn’t the new Bond.

As someone who's grown up watching Bond and the scale of Spectre through previous Bond films, I was expecting more from a film dedicated to Spectre. Expected it to be his toughest challenge breaking up a worldwide criminal network and mastermind. Bit of a damp squib in the end :(
