1, When does the ref stop play? I assume (and its the same when I play as well I think) its when the ball isnt in play?? So why do commentators always say things like"they havent got time for this", like arguing with refs etc when in fact the ref will add this time on?

2, Where did my other thread go? The one when I was asking what KK was refering to in some of his post match comments. It was a genuine question and I wasnt trying to wind anyone up. My guess is it ended up in a slanging match between us and Utd fans?

Last I saw a Utd fan had posted on there saying obsessed or something

You mean when does the ref stop the watch? That only occurs when there is a substantial stoppage, such as for an injury, or for a goal or substitution. He doesn't stop the watch every time there's a throw in, free kick or whatever. The fourth official is supposed to add up the time taken for the goals, injuries and substitutions, and that's the amount that goes up on the board. But the ref doesn't generally add on time for players protesting, so any delay due to that will cut down the time available to equalise if a team is behind.

I remember playing a Sunday league match where the ref did this. Second half kicked off at quarter to 2 and didn't finish til nearly 3. Fittingly just long enough for them to pip us 4-3 from 3-1 behind...
But yeah, it's only for subs, injuries and goals. I think it's 30 seconds for a sub and I'm not sure how long for a goal. So there's usually a minimum of 3 minutes as a result of 6 subs, assuming both teams use them all.

    Cheers for your responses lads

So obviously ifhe stopped it for everything you will be looking at playing longer than 45 mins! That's unlucky Suarez
