How does he think he knows what will be acceptable in ten years
Bernard manning might have thought his stuff would be ok
Is he using future revisionism already
    Apologize for the future
Makes as much sense as apologising for stuff that happened a hundred years ago I spose

Is queen and Adam Lambert worth going to see
    Tickets went on sale today
    260 bucks each
I had a look on you tube and I thought he was a really bad karaoke singer
The wife wants me to go though
Keep her happy or keep 500 dollars

Cheers mate. I feel like I should give him a go because he’s one of our few currently writing ‘serious’ authors. Not sure why I haven’t read any yet. I have a pile of books to read next to my bed, it will be months before I get a chance. We should meet up in a pub and attempt a Le Carre Style book handover.

I’ll listen to that. I really don’t understand my vague dislike of Gervais, he has done nothing to deserve it, most of his stuff is great (saw the clip from After Life where he calls a fat kid a **** and I cracked up) and I agree with, or at least appreciate, a lot of what he has to say on broader issues. He also did a couple of great interviews with his comedy heroes, Larry David and Christopher Guest. The one he did with Garry Shandling was a total car crash as Shandling really wasn’t up for it, and it’s to Gervais’ credit that it was broadcast at all.

Saw them last year at TRNSMT festival - tickets were half price (about £30) for the day as they weren't shifting many. Was a good day out - suggest if you go to sink a fair few bevvies, which helps. Musically they were great, but no matter how hard he tries, Lambert is no Freddie.....but it's a great sing-a-long - I've paid far more for some gigs that have been a lot worse.

Just finished watching After Life too, overall impression was that it was very good, brilliant cast, each character full of interest and memorable in their own right. A subject like this is difficult to deal with as it could be unremittingly bleak, so the very clever way he worked in the “light” relief of the local stories and characters allowed him to indulge the heavy despair of his own situation.
The overdose scene is one that will live with me forever, not quite sure I got what he was trying to do there, but overall one of the best shows I’ve seen for a while, despite the 4 weddings and a funeral last episode

    The Vamps.

Yeah, I know they are complete ****, having just seen them on The One Show. Like, complete ****. But my wife and daughter informed me that they are from around here, and I coached the bloke who is now their bass player when he was in Balsall Hornets U12s, alongside my son. No recollection whatsoever. Even better, my daughter reckons that a few years ago their (****) lead singer visited his (then I presume) girlfriend at the school where my son was in sixth form. This twat gave it the big I Am, and asked ‘do you know who I am’. To which my son responded ‘yeah, a ****er’. To general hilarity.

If anybody can point me in the direction of any really good new music I would be very grateful.

What's your poison? Some really good new Post-punk stuff about at the moment. Some good lo-fi stuff too. Album released today is the new one by Fat White Family, listened to it 3 or 4 times, loved it but it may be an acquired taste. Last week Dublin band Fontaines DC released their debut, a mix of The Pogues, The Clash and The Cure. If you want sonething a bit easier on the ear, Lucy Rose has some beautiful tunes on her latest album. Steve Masons latest album is brilliant, there's some new material by Interpol, and I listen a lot to Car Seat Headrest - lo-fi grunge. Band of the year are Idles, punk with a very distinct political message, songs about immigration, Brexit, homophobia and self-image.

I'm just in from seeing my sons' new band play their first gig - heading in a punk direction (which I approve of), I'll post some videos of them over the next couple of days.

If you want to find some new music that's not the total ****e that Radio 1 and Capital blurt out 24/7 spend some time listening to Radio 6 - very knowledgeable DJs who obviously love their music, mainly indie/rock/punk but a fair smattering of other genres. Steve Lamacq from 4-7 in the afternoons is brilliant IMO, as is Marc Riley who follows him. Saturdays with Stuart Maconie and Mark Radcliffe, then Huey from Fun Lovin Criminals, or Sundays with Cerys Matthews (she plays a lot of world music, if that's your thing).
