I love that guy!!! He looks like he could break your legs just by looking at them, but is not rash and makes some great defensive tackles to save our skins. He does show his appreciation of the fans and does a lap after the match applauding the fans. He could become the next Robbinson if he plays his cards right!!
Absolutely spot on BHD, Wilko is a top bloke and is the replacement for Robo we have been have been waiting for...a quality LB and just loves playing..
Was impressed yesterday. As it was my first game this season after being on holiday etc, this was the first time of seeing us play apart from agains AFC Wimbledon in the pre-season friendly. I'm having quite a boring afternoon today, so here are my thoughts on each player! : Loach- Can't recall a save he had to make, so can't really say he was good or bad. Doyley- I thought he had a great game. Didn't let his man past him often and made a crucial interception at the end of the game. Taylor & Marriappa- Both very solid- kept both strikers quiet, I don't think Le Fondre did anything all game except have two headers which went incredibly wide. Played the ball around nicely aswell rather than just hoofing it more often than not. Dickinson- Was impressed, tackled well and was very passionate. However he did seem to just lump it forward when there were other options available. Yeates- Played well, excellent free kick, good set pieces. Eustace- His normal self. Broke down the play, defended well, and got the ball forwards. Hogg- Really liked him. Very strong in the tackle, and played some great balls. Forsyth- Very, very good in the air. Won basically every header he had. Didn't seem to want to take on his man, but maybe once he gains more confidence he will start doing this more. Weimann- As said by most, worked extremely hard and was superb. Could easily have got a goal. Sordell- Not his best game. Held ball up well at times but, as shown by his tweet after the game (Never felt so tired in a match before but feels great to pick up our first win of the season!!) he was obviously tired after the international break. Subs didn't really have time to make an impact. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon with the crowd and players being fantastic!
Cheers for the comments guys! RE: Dickinson and Hogg. First of all Dickinson, and its nice to have a left-back who actually looks comfortable playing in that position having tried Doyley, Hodson annd Thompson over the past 2 seasons, and he wont be going in January a la Taylor! The Championship is very much his level, he kept Kebe relatively quiet throughout the match and looked good in defence, but he offers little in attack, in that his distribution and crossing isnt up to the mark. He seems a little hit and miss, he had a simply awful first half against Burnley, but yesterday to his credit he looked good. Love his passion, endears him to the fans as that is what the club is about. Still yet to make my mind up on Hogg. If Eustace is the one sitting, then Hogg should be pushing on to support the two up front. In attack I feel he offers not much more then Jenkins, he looks a little bit more comfortable on the ball, and he does the basics very well, but he hasnt got that x factor which you sometimes need from someone pushing into attacking midfield. I reckon we should give Bauben a go there once he's fit. Then again, if it aint broke why fix it?
You are welcome E. I think SD has maybe instructed Hogg to play a more defensive role and fill the space in the center. I never really saw Jenkins venture forward that much, so i wonder if it might be orders. I wonder if SD likes to play with 5 defensive players and 4 attacking players. I dont know, just a thought. However, i do agree that Hogg should be forward of JE.
I was their today, thought on the whole watford played well, reading were shocking, but then you can only beat what is put out in front of you, I thought Yeates had a much better game today than he has done on other occasions this season, very relieved but I cant see why we cant get lots more wins this year
Agree with pretty much everything that's been said, however the plus for me is that I feel that there is more to come from this team. For once it seems the International break has done us some good as the new players seem to be bedding in very well and, based on Saturday's game, look to be getting used to the pace of the Championship. I even thought that Big Chris looked sharp, albeit he was only on for a few minutes, which gives us competition for places and options. Great day on Saturday and here's hoping for many more this season. COYH
Very true 2 x RJ, and he won more headers (well...one to be precise) than in his previous 100+ minutes!!! Credit where credit is due.
I think Hogg had a really good game. He had a great shot in the second half which was well saved and in the Birmingham game put a couple of really good balls into the box. He has a touch of class about him shown by the way he moves the ball quickly and only one touch always finding a yellow shirt. He gets from box to box and doesn't let the game pass him by. If we don't have the ball he puts himself about.
