I wasn't sure which is why I was asking have his numbers gone down since the new contract. I'm wondering if there's a correlation.
to be honest theres many factors in it. a) if you look at our formation its for sure changed since even christmas. Salah was down the middle a lot and now he's wide right again. b) Firmino is getting double teams and pressed hard when he is in midfield sort of area so he's not finding same sort of space c) His record so far is 12 goals, 7 assists in prem and 3 goals in CL with 1 assist. Last year his season long record was 15 league goals and 7 assists....... and in the CL it was 10 goals 8 assists so for me his record is affected by the opposition in CL. 7 less goals... we played no real **** teams and no qualifiers so yeah on the basic view he's down from 27 goals but in reality in the prem his record is pretty much the same.
Was the Firmino incentive a fact? I thought it was just a rumour. It also depends on the player's character. Firmino is obviously a team player - but I don't trust the egos of some of the others.
Thanks for posting the stats. It looks like no real difference. I'm just glad he's the type of player who gives his best effort every game. @saintKlopp he was definitely on an incentivised contract. I haven't worked out how to post links using my phone but there are plenty out there if you wanted to Google it.
Fairynuff - I believe you. I did read about it but I don't take much notice of media talk of fees and wages because a lot of it is wild speculation.
It's rare players accept incentive contracts - I mean, why should they have to rely on luck to an extent to get the same overall salary as someone else who does **** all but sit on the bench? Then you get players who get rested, dropped or injured and their pay falls... As a fan, who's on a very normal salary, I'd say tough ****, your one good week is far beyond what I'd get in 5-10 years anyway, I don't get paid if I'm injured. I don't get paid the same if I do a poor job. But football is at a point of ridiculousness where that doesn't wash and they don't live in the real world. At some point it'll come to a head, and I'm not sure what'll happen. I'd like to think FIFA would step in and place caps on total salary paid out by the club (advertising, sponsors and image rights are another kettle of fish) to which only performance based factors can increase it (goals, assists, clean sheets, etc) but there'd be so many pissed off people used to the high life for minimal effort that it would never happen. Imagine a world where all players contracts were halved by 50% to a minimum of lets say 50k a week (who couldn't live luxuriously off that?) but no higher than 100k a week (tough times) and all that excess was put into grass roots football, community development, lowering ticket prices and education for players so they can have a life beyond football? I love living in dream lands. Clearly the transfer value would just shoot up instead... FIFA have let football finances get into a right state.
All good points. You paint a picture of what an ideal world would look like in terms of football players wages but it wouldn't work and I don't need to point out why because you already know.
Liverpool fans have demanded the signing of Eden Hazard after Mohamed Salah tweeted a photo of the pair. Hazard is believed to be wanted by Real Madrid, but after Salah’s tweet, Liverpool fans want the Belgian to make a move to Anfield. Salah simply posted a picture of the pair following Sunday’s clash and supporters were quick to respond. One wrote: “Bring Hazard on board the door at Anfield is always open #YNWA” Another added: “Imagine the amount of damage these two could do together in a liverpool shirt!” While a third simply commented: “Announce Hazard”
Nothing like Suarez, Dribs. Despite his drawbacks, Suarez gave his all every time - Hazard plays when it suits him.
He was so desperate to score on Sunday in spite of being played out of position. His wage demand is going to be too high.
The basic wage is low but with incentives it can be very high. Those sitting on bench you're referring to are somewhere inbetween. The idea is that you reward the players that perform.
It's all about supply and demand. Let's be fair here... nobody wanted firmino. We were told we were mad at the fee. Clearly we stuck it to firmino and he's have signed anything, prob cos he had to pay benteke the same but in hard cash. If a player is in demand he then calls the shots
