Tbh just surprised me when I first heard it.

Fwiw I don't think religion has the influence people think even in places like where I'm from, Pakistan. Albeit it is portrayed that way.

Overall I do think it has an effect in small parts and I would argue in some countries it's not dissimilar to the UK

For a democracy and secular place the whole second to Iran and China doesn't really sit well looking at the raw data. That is a surprise, no?

Heard it on Radio 8 at 4am once when driving. Can’t be certain but IIRC that’s what happened so it’s fact.

I'm still not 100% what the debate is. Is it religion influencing politics?

  4. It is now - but initially it was should people be sanctioned by the state or public organisations for their beliefs.

Why? What's the point of saying this country has the most influence or this is the 2nd most. It's a COMPLETELY immeasurable thing to claim tbh.

What's more worthy of discussion is how different places are influenced by religion, and there are clear examples of different religions doing it around the world and it has a largely **** impact on the people within and others outside.

Only if it is against the law what they're saying/doing. Hate speech should not be protected by religion.

    That was pretty easy.

Not sure Brunei guy is basing it on religion as such. He cites religious sources in some aspects but it's about context imo

I'm always reminded of benazir Bhutto when she claimed Pakistan was a Islamic country and she was all for it (words to that effect). Guy questioning her said but Islam says a woman can not be leader of a Nation. To which she basically said who said we follow Islam <laugh>

Even the Shia clerics are going against the teachings of Islam (these are not the difference of opinion type teachings, but clear cut ones). For example the scholarship to be the right hand of the president is a no no but they actively campaign on the leaders behalf etc.

There will always be influence. Look at the whole women bishops bill etc at one point or another. Even stuff like the cap on benefits was bishops leading the against vote.

That said my point was not all the countries presented as being religiously influenced are. So it's not as simple as saying one is and one isn't imho

Brunei are simply positioning themselves for a hostile US/Coalition invasion and takeover. The Oil will belong to Uncle Sam soon enough.

Sharia law is the first step towards becoming a dust-bowl.

Yeh but when the bishop was voting against the cap on benefits he wasn't doing it from a direct position of religion but on humanitarian grounds. Granted it's a "Christian" position to take but it wasn't Christian dogma was it?

Oh yes about this. The guys a nob but if he's bringing the game into disrepute he should be sacked.

There's probably some rules for being a player that they theorectically should adhere to.

Personally its his own view, he's not necessarily inciting people to hate them just saying they are going to hell (i think can't remember). I wouldn't want him on my team but if i was a player and i thought he could help us win trophies i might not care too much

It surprises me you're clinging to something this nonsensical. It's garbage which is why I left it.

I don't know if you're on a WUM but you do yourself no favours tbh.

The point I was responding to was about influence, albeit I don't think my initial post was about influence per session. That developed later

And yes it was based on dogma iirc because the reasons cited were given biblical quotes whilst he presented his argument

Could be wrong, without checking re the quotes, but it was a sort of "not christian" vibe iirc

Seven for a pound is running in 10 minutes.

I've heard Fahey ran it at the wrong distance at the end of last season as it was coming bang into form and has improved again after being gelded. We shall see.

    Oops, wrong thread.
