Phillips studs a player in the ankle. Yellow.

Buendia doesn't touch anyone. Red. 3 game ban.

Disgusting again, and it seems to be every week that other players are aloud to fly in studs high, hit the player and get away with it.

I'm even more sure now that Emi was never a red.

I thought Emi’s foul was a red. Nasty, out of control, in the air, two-footed. Rash.

But missed the player and made no contact.

How it that a red, but studding players up the leg or ankle is either a yellow or not even a foul? Phillips today, Foul on Max by Boro, The studs on a Norwich player seconds before Emi's red.

    If they aren't then Emi's isn't.

Whether he touched the player or not is incidental. Its the behaviour not the outcome that determines the colour of the card.

Have to agree was, definitely a red for Emi. A dangerous, two-footed lunge which could have had serious consequences. Totally unnecessary area too, but that's the kind of all-action player we admire, it's going to happen. Agree though, that others got away with similar. Doesn't make his punishment wrong.

The behaviour of planting your studs high into players legs, or stamping down on a planted ankle, is less bad behaviour than not touching a player?

For some time reckless challenges with both feet have been given red cards, irrespective of contact made.

I’m actually in favour of this rule, having seen some injuries due to two footed challenges. There’s no excuse for them.

Buendia’s tackle was naive and dangerous, he got lucky no-one was hurt and deserved the punishment.

You’re right to complain about inconsistency and other dangerous tackles/violent conduct not being punished. But that doesn’t give Buendia a reprieve.

Yep. When it happened I had my head in my hands and was really worried. As that could easily been a red. And should be one.

It's the thing, that if Emi would have studded him up the leg, he probably would have got a yellow, and maybe not even conceded a freekick, based on what has come before and after.

Spot on. You can't have players thinking "if I get this right I'll get away with it" when lunging in recklessly with both feet. They need to know that it'll be punished regardless of outcome.

But all these players that do make contact. Do get away with it. That's my problem with it.

Well both those outcomes could happen without any intention from the player to do either. Equally studing someone in the leg whilst uncomfortable for the player receiving the injury is much less likely to result in a career ending injury than an uncontrolled two footed lunge with is why that sort of tackle is particularly frowned upon. I'm sure in training players occasionally unintentually inflict stud injurys on team mates, but I doubt any player tackles a team mate with the type of tackle Buedia tried. Bundia's tackle was correctly dealt with by the ref and he deserves what he got. The fact that others get away with things is irrelevant.

That's what irks me more than anything.
Bendy had been subjected to some pretty tough tackles and no yellow given to the perpetrator.
As has been said, it was a rash and needless challenge, especially in that area of the pitch.

A stud to a planed ankle like Phillips just did could have broken an ankle. The studs to Aarons calf, could have snapped his leg.

They got lucky it didn't happen. Emi was lucky he didn't touch any player. Emi red, everyone else, play on.

We now need 7 points from our 5 remaining games to guarantee promotion, as Blades' maximum is 91 points!!!!!! :emoticon-0102-bigsm
Edit - I'd rather Leeds get automatic than Sheffield United. <ok>

Sorry, but type of tackle is needless whatever the circumstances or position on the pitch. Buendia got it wrong, he got what he deserved. Hopefully he'll learn from it and move on.
