Wolves were the better team in the first half and started the second brightly but you just felt that third goal was a kick in the guts for them. Great game though. Wolves are an exciting team to watch and have a decent set of fans. Best day at SMS for some time.
My Newcastle mate texted me at 90 mins to say well done. Told him that he was too early. We still had at least 10 mins minimum of extra time! Never relax as a Saints fan. Even when we're not playing.
Really wish I'd got a ticket for next week. First time in donkeys years I won't be at Newcastle, high, high up in the clouds watching a Subbuteo match.
Yeah I said this morning I thought it'd be one of the best games at St Marys this season, they're fans were very decent up there too, glad we've shut them up a bit now though
More to the point whats going on with Elyounoussi and Lemina? Regarding the former I'd almost prefer Boufal back.
Don't know but it's probably time to admit my great idea of playing Adama Traore and Boufal as wide attackers might not have worked.
Despite scoring two goals, leading the game, and missing chances to score more, I thought we were generally very poor for the first hour. Redmond and Sims were the only bright sparks. PEH and JWP were awful next to each other, and Ings was doing an excellent impression of Charlie. I was calling for Long and Romeu well before HT. But once we did (finally) make the double change, we looked much better. And largely cruised to three points; a deserved three points, in the end. I was already sure we would survive, but it's still nice to seemingly rubber stamp it. In fact, I'll actually be cheering Cardiff on against Brighton. Still can't decide between Bednarek and Redmond as my MOTM.
Boufal and Reed i think could be good under Hasenhuttl. Boufal likes to win the ball and run at opponents and Reed is a terrier. both the type of player that Ralph seems to like.
Boufal is having a rocky season in La Liga and does not appear to be well-liked at Celta. Same criticism as here about poor decision-making and possible selfish attitude. I think he is done here, but imagine he will still get a last chance in the summer simply because no one wants him. Lemina will and should get a chance to fight for a spot if healthy and willing. We could still use him even if only as a rotation player, but he has far more potential than that. Elyounoussi is still young and making the adjustment to PL. I imagine he'll get a chance to make a statement in the summer and if he doesn't then he will go out on loan. Just depends on who we get in. I suspect Hasenhuttl will play a little differently if he gets the opportunity to add some of his guys. So just because someone is out of the lineup now, doesn't mean they will stay there.
Southampton have won eight of their 18 Premier League games under Ralph Hassenhuttl, as many as they had won in 52 games under their two previous permanent managers combined (Mark Hughes managed three from 22 and Mauricio Pellegrino managed five from 30).
Found the game a very difficult watch today, all credit to Wolves they look very useful going forward but we were very sloppy at times and struggled to attack. But at the end of the day its 3 very useful points without our keeper really needing to make a save. Thought Ings looked very poor today.
