The 10th Anniversary of the terrorist attack on America. I can remember the day as if it was yesterday, I was carrying out training staff on certain aspects of the job they were employed to do. I was called into another office and saw the north tower on fire, I then watched the 2nd plane fly into the south tower and my whole body shook and I was utterly gob smacked. I remember watching Channel 4 and Kirsty Young was commenting on the whole thing, whilst her husband was in one of the towers, she sounded in shock but kept going. I then went back to the training room and told the people attending the training, what had happened, there was tears and everyone looked in shock. I stayed in the office up to around 7pm and then drove home, still in shock and having cried a few times. I have never ever seen anything like the atrocities of that day and watching people jump to their deaths from both towers will stay with me forever. I felt for the children who lost their fathers or mothers and as a child who lost a parent young, I know exactly how that feels and how you have to cope with life thereafter. I am not a supporter of all things America, I once worked in New York and have massive feelings for the city/state and its people, to me it is the greatest city on earth and perhaps that's why I still feel devastated by the whole thing. It's going to be a tough day for many many people across the world, and I hope that when this day is over, many can move on with their lives, without forgetting or forgiving, but with more ease at taking each day as it comes. 76 people from The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland were killed on 9/11. RIP TO ALL THE INNOCENT VICTIMS OF SEPTEMBER 11TH 2001
At work in the office, did not findout about it til the nighttime. Made me realise how isolated from the world you are when working. The acts of 9/11 and the way we have been since will not be remembered well by history!
I was in school, I remember first hearing about it in the lunch room. The news was spreading so fast and everyone was really anxious and tense hearing the news.
Boab, thats a lovely article, bless ya. I was working Managing another firm of estate agents. People were coming in off the street telling us what was happening. At first obviously we thought it was a freak accident, it was only when the 2nd tower was flown into, that i burst into tears, awful, awful waste of life. R.I.P
Me and the Wife were on holiday in Turkey...i will never forget that we were in the hotel pool and the music was blasting out and then all off a sudden it went off and people were crowded round a small tv in the bar..... that night we went into bodrum and you could hear a pin drop in the main strip...... A life chnaging day and my prayers today go out to all those who lost love ones on the day and since in the fight against terror..... RIP......
One of the offices had CNN streaming (to keep up with current affairs apparently) and someone posted the bare facts on to an internal forum just as I looked at it. No-one in my office believed me, especially as the Beeb etc were lagging behind. It was a bit like the Challenger disaster. You watched it and thought 'This isn't meant to happen....'.
Was on a course at Gatwick with some Americans from work, got the message that some idiot had crashed into WTC... We started cracking funnies about dopey pilots. Then we all went into the ops room and watch Sky news/ CNN. Devastated to see north tower hit. Needless to say the Americans left and the course was delayed. Totally unbelievable. 18 months later I was in Saddams palace in Baghdad. The world changed from that moment on....
Walked into Currys to look at a new mini disc player & stayed there hours watching the news with the staff who I knew. Phoned my step dad to let him know what was happening as he had contacts in new york & he was also watching it on sky news. Sadly I have lost my stepdad now, but for some reason that phone call sticks in my head as much as the second plane hitting the towers which I watched happen. RIP 9/11
I was at school, I didnt know til I got home and my mam rang and said someones flown a plane into the twin towers.. I was 14 and in my stupidity I said " Why would anyone fly a plane into Wembley?" I'd never heard of the Twin Towers, I'd heard of WTC but not that it was the Twin Towers...thing is, now everyone knows what the Twin Towers were and what happened that horrific day.
I was in R.E and I remember the teacher pulling up a TV and we all sat watching it unfold! It was awful, thinking about it now the teacher probably shouldnt have done that because we where only in year 7 and to watch people jumping will always stick in my head!
I was teaching a training course in London. We'd just finished up at 4.30pm, oblivious to how the world had changed while I had been rambling on. The training centre had internet PCs out in the coffee area just outside the room and one of the students had stopped to check his email before heading home. I heard him say "****ing hell!" and, thinking that was unusual language to hear in a training centre, I went out to see what was up ...
I was at school, I was only 9 so I don't remember too much but I remember everyone talking about it the next day. The one thing that sticks in my mind from then are the images on the news of all the terrified people outside covered in ash.
I was on honeymoon, knowing full well I would have to fly home a week after and was ****ting myself and considering hiring a car to drive 1000`s of miles home instead!
I was at work and was told the Americans were under attack! It was in the days when people didn't access the internet at work, so everyone was in the dark. Fortunately my wife (then girlfriend) called me to say she was watching Sky News and she gave me the true details. I must admit there was mild panic in the office, thoughts of World War III!
I was living in america at the time. I was eating breakfast getting ready for school when i was watching tv and it came on and it was unbelievable what was happening. We were ontop of the empire state building a couple of weekends before as well looking over towards the twin towers. At school the whole day was obviously focused towards it, i dont think we did anything else. There was a lot of silences and also a lot of singing of the american national anthem
I was at home looking after my youngest daughter when my son phoned and said "they're attacking the twin towers". I said "what, Wembley!!! and who's attacking them?" He said "no, the trade centre in New York, turn on your TV". I turned the tele on and saw a plane go into one of the towers. I couldn't believe what I was watching. It was awful I felt so bad for the poor people in the towers. Totally gobsmacked, something I hope I never see the like again.
