Before I start on this I would like to point out that I am not belittling Manure or City's starts to the season because both have looked very good (unfortunately ). However,it has often rankled with me that Liverpool seem to get very few breaks compared to the other top teams. Yesterday for example we were denied an obvious penalty for handball by Delap but conceded a dubious penalty ourselves. Arsenal were given their game by an outrageous stroke of fortune.Chelsea and Manure have both had their 'lucky' moments already this season (both against WBA and Chelsea were very fortunate against Norwich). I know many will come on here talking of 'sour grapes' but it's not honestly.I just feel that Liverpool do not get those important moments of (luck) good fortune when you need it and until we do we may struggle to get into the top 4. Now some may say that the teams mentioned are good enough to capitilise on those moments and they may be right and others will say that things even out over a season in which case we are owed some 'luck' in bucketloads already. Do you think that referee's treat us differently because we are not a complaining club? Do you think Kenny is right to suggest that some teams get favoured because they shout louder than others? Or am I just being paranoid? You need to be a good team to get into the CL but you also need things to go your way and they need to start going our way pretty damn soon!!!!
I'm not worried, really. We've played four and should of won four. I never expected to make the giant leap to winning the league this year but very much expect us to be in contention for top 4. I hear what you are saying about luck but these things even themselves out over a course of a season....atm, the difference between us and the top 2 is finishing.....not luck.
True but those little decisions/moments certainly add up and could be the difference in the end.Yes we should have won all 4 but didn't because Carrol's goal was wrongly ruled out against Sunderland and those decisions yesterday.Sure we had enough chances to win btu when the ball won't go in the net that's when you need it.
Luck evens itself out; Kennys clever comments post match will ensure some 50/50's will go our way in the future too....keep the faith, not sure how old you are but I can assure you that this is some of the best football that we've played in two decades!
Unfortunately I am old enough to remember the teams of the 70's and 80's (unfortunate I am that old, fortunate that I saw them play) and I know what you are saying and they absolutely dominated yesterday but my original comments were not just necessarilly aimed at only refereeing decisions but just those moments of luck that seem to go with the other top teams e.g Arsenals goal yesterday. We shall see what effect Kenny's comments have and whether the 50/50's go our way.Maybe we won't need them .
Even though we lost, the encouraging thing is that we've gone to yet another difficult away ground and dominated possession, the other one being the emirates. We can be confident enough to go to less difficult away grounds ie Stamford Bridge, Mould Trafford and Wastelands and win.
We lost, best to move on now and try to get something at Spurs. Chin up everyone the way we played was still impressive and if we stick to that way of playing attacking football we will do very well this season.
What off-side goals. The first one could not be offside as the last player to touch the ball was an Arsenal player, thus making the Liverpool player on-side. The second goals, Suarez was at worst level, and 9/10 times the forward gains the advantage/benefit of the doubt. I think you need to check the rules. PS. If Ferguson wants protection for De Gea, he should buy him a packet of condoms.
I posted this a week ago and have resurected it just to prove a point. Not about our defeat but the Man Utd/Chelsea match. Utd...2 offside goals and a goal of outrageous luck. Chelsea...A shocking cashley tackle=booking. It was a leg breaker. What other teams get this level of fortune (although Chelsea do have Torres to counter balance their luck-what a miss)
One thing I noticed in regards to Skrtel's first booking, with his arm across Bale, is that the booking only came because Bale went down, not because it was actually a foul. I can't remember who the players were, but a similar incident happened in the MUFC v CFC game, and because the Chelsea player stayed on his feet, there was no foul. Arms go across players all the time, sometimes instinctively, sometimes on purpose to gain an advantage, and while a foul may (rarely) be given, a booking is even more rare. As I said in another thread, if every bookable offence was punished, you'd have something similar to our game today.
