I've never said we should sell him either. What i have said (and you can check the Burnley match thread) is that he needs to be re-introduced more slowly after returning from injury, maybe coming on from the bench if absolutely necessary. The last 2 seasons we were on a roll and his return to the team disrupted our momentum.

That raises the question - is that what he is being asked to do?
If yes, then MP needs to adapt and change.
If no, then why is MP allowing it?

I never said you did ( there's only one person on here that advocates that option). I also agree 100% with the rushing back argument.
    But that is MP"s decision.....

I don't think UEFA have that rule the when action is taken at the time they can't revisit it, that's just an FA special to duck out of being consistent. I think you're right that the ref would still need to mention it in his report though and realistically nothing's going to happen.

It will be interesting to see if UEFA mention it though when they explain VAR decisions. It's been by far my favourite feature with the introduction of VAR. Whether I agree with them or not, having them explain the decisions is only going to help consistency in the long run, particularly if they also call out VAR when they've made the wrong call.

Is it though? I think his desire to pick up another golden boot might cause him to pressure MP to return him to the team earlier than is advisable.

The explanation and transparency is key like you say, which is why I’m such a strong advocate of miking the refs up and broadcasting the feed like they do in rugby. We saw this at an A-League game recently and I see no reason at all why we should not be looking to implement this in England.

Kane is quickly becoming officially injury prone. The same ankle being weak is not a good sign and a big concern for his career. Granted I didn't have access to the same level of treatment but tearing ankle ligaments leaves a lasting mark physically and mentally. Gets to a stage where you can turn on it whilst taking a stroll years after the initial injury due to weakness

He's still the manager. It's his choice and I think it's one that he's got consistently wrong.

I don't remember all Kane's injuries but the last 2 and the Sunderland one awhile back would have injured anyone. It's not like they were innocuous challenges or he's getting regular muscle strains.

The way i saw last night's incident was that Rose did stop the ball with his arm so a penalty should have been given BUT that it was accidental (so no yellow card) as the arm was in a natural position given that he was sliding to block what he thought would be the expected path of the ball. His arm was already in that position before the ball left Sterling's foot. Whenever you see a player performing a sliding tackle the arm goes up as part of the body's attempt to remain balanced.

Although it’s a pain to not have him for the rest of the season, if he now sits out football until pre-season it might be a blessing in the long term as he will have time to get the ankle absolutely spot on and not rush back.

Southgate will probably call him up for some meaningless friendlies or have him play for the England Ladies team or something.
Then he'll moan about how tired some of the players are.

Yeah, I think it's correct by the instructions given to refs. It's ridiculous to punish players for not having their arms by their sides at all times though, players would have to go in for tackles and blocks like they're competing in the luge. Had no idea Rose was booked for it tbh, must have missed that.

Anyway, I was talking about the Fernandinho elbow drop.

As a side note, does anyone have a replay of the foul on Son in the first half, it looked to me like the foul may have continued into the box.

I never like to have players shirk international duty and am proud that one of our own captains the England team right now, but just for once, Poch should hide his passport.

Strange logic, first the dug out IS in the middle of the pitch, or are you suggesting we give City free range down the wings? Where abouts on the pitch matters little, what matters is the pressing. I cannot believe you think players should pick and choose where to tackle the opposition. Defence starts with strikers and goes through the whole team in any part of the pitch. The mindset has to be stop the opposition progressing whether you are Kane or Vertonghen. Where ever you are you have to take the ball back. Oh it's by the dugout I wont tackle him there ? that's an impossible way to think. City left Son because he was going nowhere and the ball was going out, yeah right! Then it was in their goal. No point tackling Son was there?

That's true, regardless of how they come...they still affect his body long term as is already showing with it being the same ankle.

When Kane went off Eriksen upped his game and nade more incisive passes. That is why we scored when Kane went off, not because he went off.
