Yeah, that Kane. Just another Jimmy Greaves, with all those highest scoring league striker stats each season doing nothing for the "benefit of the team" .
Poch needs to sort it out...it doesn't mean Kane is right...we are nullifying our most exciting attacker in Son because the wing backs and mids are not doing what they should...that's not good enough. It's costing us the form of what I would say is our current best player.
Seems to me that everyone automatically steps up when Kane's not around and opposing teams don't know where the danger is coming from. With Kane in the team he naturally becomes the focal point and everyone goes looking for him. As an opposing manager my team tactics are easier if I know Kane is playing.
They aren't though. He got demolished by me weeks ago with the most basic stattery (and that wasn't even robust/significant data) . Keep telling you people, some of us here do data analytics as part of our day job. Or to put it more bluntly : Never bring a prat to a stat fight.
It was clear for almost everyone to see that when Kane was rushed back, both this season and last, our results suffered. I don't need a data analyst to tell me that.
Players who only step up when a class striker is not playing ?? That smacks to me of players who are being carried by the prowess of that striker. "With Kane in the team he naturally becomes the focal point and everyone goes looking for him. As an opposing manager my team tactics are easier if I know Kane is playing." I assume there are a lorry load of draws/losses that have Spurs have suffered over the past 4 seasons, as opposition managers have "neutralised" Kane (and thus the Spurs attack) ...
Yeah but data is cool if your Rainman...people bring their mentality to a game and that affects outcomes too. Hence the need for a player with a 'winners' mentality
Forget the past 4 seasons. I'm talking about the periods immediately after Kane returned, this season and last.
Oh, so we didn't drop 14 points out 15 after Kane returned? I must have dreamt that. Thank goodness. How many points did we actually get then?
They step up because they probably find a bit more space and freedom. I think we could be missing a trick here. There's no doubt Kane drops too deep too often
"Forget the past 4 seasons. I'm talking about the periods immediately after Kane returned, this season and last." As am I (the January injury being the most laughable of the Kane stat claims) .
With a population sample of 5 games, and an N variable system (N >= 11) , you are able to show that only one variable is statistically significant in the performance of that system. Your Nobel prize for maths beckons.
This is true. And that falls on the lack of investment in other positions that help out Kane’s own strengths. Having negative full backs and a mediocre midfield isn’t the end of the world if you have dynamic attacking players. - which is why we see Son flourish. But if there’s a target man, the wing backs players need todo exactly that. Create width on the wing. Which then opens up the centre of the pitch for the likes of Kane to exploit.
You're not the only person here that uses data analysis on a daily basis but it doesn't change the fact that we picked up 1 point out of 15 when Kane returned from injury, having picked up 12 out of 15 previously or that last season we managed 7 out of 15 when he returned versus 15 out of 15 previously.
Last night is not a good example. Stats will say we scored after Kane was injured and off the pitch. Our eyes tell us that we were infinitely better and more in control of the game with him on it. If there is an issue with our performances with/without HK on the pitch then the job of MP is to work out why and adapt. But selling your best player and arguably one of the best strikers in Europe is not the answer.
Agreed, Kane occasionally drops off too much. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, sometimes it ends up in a freak injury. People used to say the same about Rooney, re. coming deep too much, when the rest of the team isn’t providing. I get why players do it when they’re that capable of making things happen m, but they also need to learn the discipline of playing their role and trusting others. Nobody is saying how we play now is perfect, which seems to me to be the strawman some are arguing against. But the solution is clear - we need to set up a bit differently, get a more effective RB and RW and probably a CM as well...and not sell Kane!
I'm not saying they shouldn't play together...we lost the man to hold the ball thetefore the game changed...I saw that. That does not justify Kane dropping deep and stepping on the Wingers toes...he needs to hold the ball somewhere else on the pitch. He drops deep to collect and run...leave that to the wingers. Drop back to press by all means.
