We have to remember that for a lot of "lads" like the large group at the back of the Northam in block 42 who all go down to the concourse holding hands together 7 or 8 minutes before half time that for them, doing that shows us how really really really HARD they are.

because to be a REAL man, you have to drink constantly, even watered down rats piss inside a football stadium where no one can see you.

They will then leave the ground early to get down the pub, also because they are really really really HARD.

They also really really really like all the films done by Tamar Hussain, because... and lets not forget this... they are really really really HARD.

Guys and Gals it is a sad fact that people get up and go 5 mins before the end "to avoid the rush". I have been going to football matches for a very long time and can assure you that this happens at every ground you go to. We know that some have got deadlines and so must leave early. I do recall a few years ago I got up from the dell between 4.40 and 4.45. I got moaned at even shouted at. What I couldn't be assed to tell them on the day was that I had a flight to catch at 5.50 I had left it as late as I dare. I didn't get back to see a Saints game for almost two years. There is a group of 3 that sit near me a father and his two sons. Every match they get up on the 80th minute and go home. I mean every game......they are always moaning about the goals they miss but they still do it. Of-course next week we will hear how they missed Lamberts last goal......the rest of us just take the mickey out of them...it makes no difference though. They say by leaving that much earlier they can get home by a certain time, where as by staying they get home 45 minutes later!! We remind them that that 20 minutes of that time is the football they miss and the rest of the time is just the normal journey home!! IN other words it make no difference.....they still do it though and as I said have been for years. For me though although we do not get it down our end so much, are the ones that are constantly up and down. Had a cup ticket down at the Kingsland/northam corner within 10 minutes of the game starting the queue started and being seated the wrong side of the concourse entrance our view was constantly interrupted. As the game progressed at times there was a bottle neck at this point. 10 minutes before half time we had no chance of seeing anything of the game. To me this is total thoughtlessness and down right rude. However it is a sign of the times I am not sure how you can deal with this. Banning alcohol at the games may reduce it some what but other than that I don't know.

I applaude you for even attending the game and there are obviuosly exeptions as in all things . But i am always surprised by the numbers generally who feel the need to walk out before the end you hear one seat go clack and all of a sudden were on the move . Maybe its a british thing people can be creatures of habit ie we are 36 mins in i must go and get my pie it seems the pie is a bigger draw than the game they have paid 30 quid to come and see it will never stop but is just somthing that never fails to amaze me . By the way it was a great game yesterday im glad i watched it all

This is thread that we have done before and I am sure that there is letter to the Echo printed about it in 1898. T'was ever the way as Beddy says, but my son was unimpressed by the pillock in front of us who thought it would be nice to stand up every time that we might score. How selfish and or thick can you get.

I just wonder whether switching off the TVs in the concourse might help because I suspect a lot of the early leavers don't miss the last 5 minutes at all, but hang around the screens and then scarper upon the final whistle.

I know fans have always left the ground early at the end of the game, it's just this increasing trend for people to go to the concourse ages before half time that is doing my head in.

You go to a football game to watch the football. It's only on for 90 minutes once a week. Why not savour every minute... especially when we've got such a great team and having our best results in decades!

I always miss a ferry by staying till the end and have to wait for next, but don't care as I wouldn't dream of leaving. However, I will accept there may be longer gaps for some journeys, but surely not important for an afternoon match.

I have never left early. I just can't see how you could leave with 7-8 minutes left with the score at 3-2.

I saw loads of people pile out the moment the third went in. "Oop, we're winning, let's hope it stays that way, come on kids let's go"

I sometimes get up from my seat to go to toilet. Is that a bad thing? Would you rather I just piss my pants?

EDIT: I left the Saints Millwall game on 89 mins a couple of years ago because we knew every pub will lock it's doors and we wanted to get in before they did.

In truth it is no big deal, if it is one thing I cannot stand, it's intolerance.

Hmm had it not occured to you to empty your bladder before the game started the same as the rest of us? So you wouldn't have to miss some of the game or more importantly disturb everyone else?? Or are you going to say you have a weak bladder? Even poeple with cronic bladder problems can go at least 45 minutes without a pee!!

They are the same twats that arrive 5mins after KO, go down on 35mins come back on 50mins and in between their kids go to the bog 3 times each. We should all sit tight and make them stay until the end.............

Also what pisses me off is at full time when we're all being patient and waiting on the stairs for the queue to go some idiot from another block thinks it's ok to climb over to our block and basically decides to push my nephew outta the way on the stairs because somehow he's in more of a rush than anyone,if i was violent i would of smacked the git in the mouth!

My brother used to suffer very badly from anxiety attacks, and general depressive states, so I can empathise with you very easily on this one, Beattieing. If you suffer as badly as I have seen, the very fact that you manage to get to St Marys at all is amazing, let alone stay there for most of the match.

Although I don't come from a football supporting family, my eldest brother has become interested in Saints in recent years. I took him to see Matty's Testimonial match and he loved it. The next season I took him a standard league match. That was quite a different thing, and he found it quite intimidating, although he came through it. Nowadays, the anxiety attacks have gone. Here's hoping yours will too, eventually.
