Parents have been removingvtheir kids from sex education lessons since the 1980s. I think it's wrong personally. I know in this case those protesting are mainly Muslim but Catholic families regularly do the same...and most Catholic schools do not cover the topic. It is also worth remembering that in the 1980s the Tories brought in one of the most homophobic acts called Section 28 ofvthe education act claiming it was needed to "stop homosexuality being promoted as bring normal or equal to heterosexuality." These parents (mostly born in Britain) are aged in their 20s upwards. They were educated under that terrible rule and their children and these school and ultimately society are paying the price of their ignorance brought about by a terrible Tory law. Lessons about personal development cover relationships. It is important that students get to talk about things and ask questions that they may not be able to ask at home. Children need to be taught about how to recognise when they are behaving in an unacceptable way or when someone else is doing so to them. They need to get honest answers to issue such as sex and in terms of LGBT plus (think that's the term) issues they need to know being gay or bisexual is as acceptable as bring straight. Parents can not remove their children from maths or English lessons so should not be able to do so for personal development lessons.
So you would be uncomfortable with your children marrying a homosexual. Me too . Dribble thinks you are a bigot though. Sorry
As I've been trying to point out, there is more to this than meets the eye As I understand it likes of Andrea leadsom and Damian Hinds have said that age appropriate is an issue here. It's not simply about no LGBT education Think that's media spin unfortunately that has been bought into And yeah I have to admit that's some of the protestors will be ****wits too
Not that simple though. And in fact not breaking the law 1998 Human Rights Act clearly states: “The state shall respect the right of parents to ensure that such education and teaching is in conformity with their own religious and philosophical convictions.” Section 76 of the Education Act 1944 “pupils are to be educated with the wishes of their parents”. The suggestion is that outsiders programme has breached this according to the parents. Something allided to by leadsom and Hinds So are the parents then correct
A few posters asked what this has to do with Islam including you . The press seem to believe it is a clash of tolerance. 2 victim groups demand that their group is shown tolerance. I personally don't believe kids should be taught about LGBTQ until they are 15 at least. Personally
Tbf mate I do agree with not teaching certain things to kids However the no outsiders programme has been getting stick way before the current Birmingham school. A quick Google will show you parents concerns from 2 years ago on forums like mumsnet. The general consensus seems to be this isn't about diversity and equality but pushing the homosexual agenda. (That's the parents views not mine) Also it's show's that concerns were raised in places like Manchester and petitions and the like have been ongoing for some time from across a range of communities Even in Birmingham 5 schools have suspended the programme but have not received much media coverage So I say again is this really an Islam v LGBT issue?
No mate it was nobody on here, just the 'press'. Or just the newspaper article chosen that suited the OP agenda
I agree with you mate . Perhaps last year of high school or 6th form when they start to become sexually active to promote safe sex at least but not little kids .
So are you going to call Fan a bigot for not being comfortable with his son marrying a homosexual? You giant hypocrite
Tbh I started looking at the "no outsiders" programme and I am now siding with the parents The moffat fella seems like a **** pushing an agenda and has in fact broken educational "laws". This view is subject to change as I find out more. But currently it seems he has tried to repackage something he tried to do in 2014 and was sacked/resigned for. Again the reasons cited were he was pushing an agenda what went against the education and legal ethos.
Anyone that gets their morals from a book about an imaginary sky pixie of whatever flavour is in need of an education.
Quote me his post where he's saying it. I've had a look and all I've got is you trying to goad him and you saying it on his behalf Btw if Fan went around the forum posting the diatribe you do against specific groups then I would absolutely say the same to him so don't take it personally Duncan. Now how about an answer to the question you've been avoiding. Have you ever been in a relationship with a muslim and how did that work out for you? Please remember, we're trying to get to the nub of your islamophobia
They aren’t on about sex!!! Just acknowledging the existence of various relationships, that they exist and understand auntie having a girlfriend is normal and absolutely fine. Please stop fixating on the sex aspect it’s nonsense.
It's interesting you should say that. It's widely accepted that most homophobia stems from a fixation on the sexual act itself. How apt. As it goes you're spot on and about half a dozen people on the thread have said the same. There is no sex discusssed in primary education except puberty and even that is at age 10/11. But lets not allow facts to get in the way of a bit of outrage
