That’s when gaming was a group experience, as you watched the local thick **** who could barely tie his own shoelaces own the thing for seemingly eons. Then came the Atari & it largely ended and gaming became a solus experience
Tbh, if I’d had Space Invaders and internet porn in the house when I was a kid, I’d still be in my bedroom now.
I think that’s due to the online stuff personally, it’s one thing losing to a mate at home or to the computer opponent, it takes on a different dynamic when you’re competing with internet randoms, especially if there’s interaction and they’re taking the piss etc.
Oh yeah it's the online stuff without a doubt, my kid doesn't get angry at all if it's an offline game.
Playing games used to piss me off as a kid, and depending on my mood into my early 20s. Have destroyed countless controllers by throwing them across the room or into a wall. Snapped one with my hands after I started lifting. Have also piledrived a laptop into the floor when I lost a game on Football Manager. Nowadays I’m not bothered at all when I lose or whatever but I barely play. My housemate still goes mental when he’s losing on Fifa/Fortnite and he’s 30. He won’t break **** though just shout at the 9 year old who is beating him.
Did anyone else used to play with the buttons and n **** whilst the demo was on dreaming about putting some money in one day? I was banned from Arcades coz my dad thought they were the first step towards gambling machines which happened to be placed within close proximity for some weird reason
This was the one that ate my, and my friends, money. 4 way action with a buy in when you died. The owner of my local newsagents must've made a fortune from it. please log in to view this image
Never got into consoles but back in the day, my misspent youth in the arcades... please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
