Not quite right. We got caught out for the first goal which was played into the vacant left back position when Alioski was on the right, though as WJ pointed out, an area that perhaps should have been covered by Harrison.
But the cross and attack came from playing the ball into the vacant left back area and there was a similar attack just before where BPF saved the shot.
2 shots on target in 45 minutes, isn't exactly ripping him to pieces is it. And 3-4 defenders should have stopped the goal, how many do you want us to have back ?
Wasn't changed when Douglas came on,only when Clarke came on when we went more attacking not more defensive.
I don't recall ever posting that he was ripped to pieces. I think Alioski has been excellent all season just that in this game it appeared that Millwall were targeting the space behind him when he went forward. I'm only guessing that is the reason MB changed it at half time. And for the goal form me most culpable was Jansson (who I happen to think is brilliant) as he seemed to duck or at least was surprised that a millwall player was there, as a CB he should have attacked the ball, imho of course.
Most teams try to exploit the space behind our fullbacks,Millwall didn't change for us,that's how they play every week,in fact every season, and it's the norm recently to bring Douglas on around half time, only this week we took Alioski off instead of Harrison, probably due to him playing better this week, but I certainly don't think it was due to Alioski being found out,or anything like that,as Lee was implying. As WJ has said previously,it's the way we play and winger and fullback interchange,it was just a few poor passes which caught us out.
No,the original conversation was with Lee,implying Alioski playing fullback had been found out.Not sure how you came into it tbh.
I just said that they did get into the space behind when he pushed forward. Not a criticism of him as he will be playing to MB's instructions. As you say, that's how we play and all teams know this. Millwall were perhaps more effective for a while in turning our defence. Given our points and position so far it's hard to argue that it works more often than not
Millwall were actually much less successful than normal, like I say they have played that way for years. Our problem is finishing,if we had done that and won 5-2 or 6-2 no one would be saying a word.
Leaving a few gaps at the back whilst at the same time bombing forward creating loads of chances is part and parcel of our risk and reward style of play, and Alioski at LB fits this system perfectly. No point in overanalysing most of the goals we concede. Gifting gilt edged chances to the opposition is an inevitable consequence of our system, which in turn will create gilt edged chances for ourselves. Great to watch and never a dull moment. What a difference to the dull, boring style of play we had under the likes of McDermott for example.
Pretty much spot on Forza, only point i would make is our system makes it hard to create gilt edged chances because we have the ball so much and pen sides into their half... there’s a lot of bodies to get through. It’s why we create a lot of half chances, and in part why people question our conversion rates etc. What we do is trade lots of half chances v a few guilt edged ones. As you say we get hit in transition and there’s a lot of space to exploit if the opposition beat the press. In the games we score first, the opposition has to open up and we sometimes end up with less lopsided possession stats, fewer ‘chances’, but better ones and more goals. Reading and West Brom recently being case in points.
