Phew. You’re in the opposite end of the stadium. Had me worried for a moment . Great news though mate, glad you’ve got one sorted
I can't make tonight and am delighted for you. I can now feel better about having been given 2 tickets for the City game next week. It will be my first venture into the South Stand, having sat in the East Stand on Saturday. I can't remember having been so excited for a game. I know you'll sing your heart out for the shirt. COYS!
. Really delighted for you Colin, give them a big cheer from me & its not every day a Great-Grandmother gets a proposal, even a virtual one, so cheers for that! Have a wonderful evening & COME ON YOU SPURS!
Listening to the radio Glenn Hoddle saying how Levy told him that he puts no pressure on Poch to win trophies. Good thing or bad thing? I mean that could go a long way in explaining Poch's blazey attitude towards silverware and how he celebrates a decent half in which we lost anyway to a team we were always finishing above until they got serious about winning things. Personally it feels like Levy is indoctrinating THFC to think top 4 is a trophy...nothing else matters I understand that it's very comfy to know that your Gaffer isn't going to be down your neck...on the other hand Poch has been here going onto 6 years...he should be celebrating a bit more than a decent half
Overjoyed for him(more so us)...he would have just been a pain up the 'arris all throughout the Matchday thread if he didn't get a ticket Phew
Pochettino is well in credit with Levy at the moment on that front. Although not finishing come May with CL next season ...
Truly disgusting that you think rcl would not be here playing his usual professional game, but would succumb to the emotion.
I think there is an underlying element at work here that a few people have mentioned over the years and that is the idea that Poch is as close to the perfect manager for Levy as is humanly possible. Levy has had his fingers burned too many times by crap appointments yet struck gold in hiring a manager who 'gets' the club's sporting ethos, doesn't do or say anything out of line and - most importantly - doesn't actually need gold to achieve relatively high levels of success. Levy is probably (and rightly) petrified of losing him but can't entice him to stay with war chests every transfer window and so does the only other thing a chairman can do to make his employee feel more comfortable: remove any and all pressure to deliver beyond the bare minimum requirement.
You mean like Wenger was ideal for Gazidis until the fans had had enough because the penny finally dropped? In which case I'll see you in 10 years time...I know a decent place that makes very big banners for a discount
Bloody hell! We give the bloke next to nothing to spend on transfers, whilst others spend hundreds of millions every summer, he produces the best results we've seen in over 50 years with kids and cheap buys, plays all but 2 seasons without a home game, turns down the advances of Real Madrid and United.....and you want to pressure the bloke more...? I'm sorry but since you've been away, you've lost the plot, mate.
Not quite. The Goons were only in a TWO horse race, with Chelsea yet to have won the Roman lottery. Also, their board made the bold claim that the Goons would be up there with the likes of Munich etc with the funding that the Library would bring in. All of which turned out to be deceit. So to Spurs ... Enter the CL club when it was a FIVE horse race, and Citeh awaiting their Mansour lottery ticket to be cashed. The realisation that Arry 2010 was not sustainable financially (Citeh effectively bought Spurs CL slot in 2011/12/13/15) . So build new WHL to get the immediate revenue streams. The promise to take the club higher, but no grandiose claims beyond that. "In which case I'll see you in 10 years time...I know a decent place that makes very big banners for a discount" Fair enough. But I will enjoy 10 years being like the last 4 far more than the Goons enjoyed the last decade of Wenger. < YMMV >
The last 4 years haven't been an upward trajectory I think we have been on the decline in the last 2... Its become apparent for so many reasons that this squad was at the peak of its strengths when we lost the title to Chelsea. Someone will have to change his strategy or we will carry on declining slowly. You can subtract Toby and Eriksen from our squad come Summer aswell.
Assuming we get CL next season, there is going to have to be a big reckoning in the summer. Both squad clear-outs/losses + incomings. And new WHL will no longer be a potential excuse (it will be online and Levy will be held to his word) for failure in the above.
I'd say this has been the only season of decline. From 2015 through til 2018 we were good to watch and tough to beat, finishing 3rd, 2nd and 3rd. It's been completely different this one, we've been pretty boring to watch and relatively easy to beat, ten losses in the Prem proves so, especially when in 16/17 and 17/18 we only lost a combined 11 times in the Prem. Even in the games we've won, you can probably only count on one hand the genuinely impressive performances. Hopefully tonight reignites our spark to finish strongly and secure CL. Though whether we finish top four or not (we better!), this summer is going be absolutely huge for us. We're already set to lose Eriksen and Toby regardless of where we finish, if we don't bring in multiple players of quality and suffer as a result next season, it will likely result in more key players considering their future and then all of this "best squad in years" phrase many of have used will have somewhat been for nothing and forgotten in the near future.
That's a bit harsh Brian. I was only trying to interpret what Spurlock had said Hoddle had said Levy had said about Poch! Pressure - healthy pressure - is good in any industry, regardless of resources or relative budgets compared to others. You wouldn't see the CEO of Asics saying 'ah screw it, we'll never beat Nike'. It doesn't concern me in the slightest that we haven't won the PL or CL under his charge. As you have already said given the circumstances that has been a totally unrealistic target since the day he walked in until the present. But there is no escaping the fact that we have reached 3 semi-finals and 1 final in 5 years and emerged empty-handed. A more demanding CEO would see that as a failure and - whilst perhaps not firing the incumbent - would certainly apply pressure for things to change in that department. If, as Spurlock said, Hoddle said that Levy said that he 'never' applies said pressure, I think it's certainly valid to wonder why. According to you, the reason is because Poch is massively exceeding all expectations anyway so why bother. According to me, it is because despite the relative failure of not delivering any trophy in 5 years, he remains by far the perfect match for the job as Levy sees it (largely due to his ability to eke top performances out of a squad desperate for investment), and at certain points over the past few years probably got very nervous that the likes of United and Real would swoop.
The decline starts when the quality of the squad starts to decline...that was when Walker left. That's a big shift that helped City since he was absurdly pivotal to how they wanted to play and how we played. The result was last year's league table This season it is just carrying on and some because all those around us tackled their weaknesses we did not! One day people will admit that Levy needs to pull his finger out of his arse and strengthen the god damn first team or he has to answer for it...I don't support a stadium and it's gimmicks I support a football team....no amount of Sky diving off the Cockrel is getting us 3 points...that requires quality on the pitch and soon or we will decline further because those around us are not shy to strengthen
Pressure to win trophies, is it not. The pressure on Pochettino to at least replicate Library era Wenger, is implicit and very real.
No but it's all good because Trippier will flourish into an even better player so much so that we won't even remember Kyle was ever here, ain't that right @Dier Hard ? ()
"Hoddle says"....................I'm sorry but whilst he was a great footballer, he talks total bollocks about most things and hasn't forgiven Levy for sacking him. The Asics comparison is very good....I like it but it falls to dust when you analyse it. MP has significantly improved performance during his period as manager. You/Spurlock/Hoddle/whoever are advocating the pressuring of the management for not outperforming Nike's results when his factory is shut and they're spending time in a temporary factory and spending all their money on new machinery and building new premises. We've lost out to Chelsea and United in those cup games, who spend vastly more than us on wages, transfers, etc. That's like Asics sales and profits coming in below Adidas and Nike and pressurising the management for it, despite the best results they've had for decades. No? It's what you'd expect given the size of their squads and the wages they pay. Big teams usually win at the end of the season because they have more and better resources to close things out. Had we lost to clubs well below us, then I could see whoever's point you're making. We're performing extremely well but still below teams that have been outperforming us financially for well over a decade. We need to raise our game to win stuff, I agree - although you want to falsely suggest otherwise. However, I don't agree that pressurising our manager will make any difference to us winning anything. If it was that easy.......Asics would have their MD on a rack.
