Historically it is hard to argue that there hasn't ever been violent crime in London, you only have to read Dickens to get a feel for how rough the place was during Victorian times. There has also been organised crime and gangs in London for hundreds of years so what we are experiencing on our streets now is nothing new. So what is the difference? It's always been about poverty. Philanthropists saw the correlation between crime, poverty and general ill health and sought to improve the lot of the lower classes. New housing to replace slums with Peabody and Guinness trusts and the like building modern facilities and clearing out the rat infested terraces. New schools and access to education, increasing the age which you could leave school so that kids didn't have to go to work at 11 years old. Roll on to the 21st Century and we still have poverty but instead of it being lower class English & Irish it is now a plethora of dark persons, just take your pick from West Indian, African, Asian, Arab, Eastern European etc. What we don't need to be held up as the excuse for current violent crime in London is that "it's always been that way" because it hasn't always been this bad and that is simply not a good enough excuse. I do not remember any time during the 70's to the 90's where there was a stabbing or death every day of the week. A Stephen Lawrence or Damilola Taylor was shocking because it was so rare an occurrence. I couldn't name a single victim of knife crime this year which goes to show it isn't shocking at all.
We have stabbings and shootings up here all the time. Why are there so many stabbings in Glasgow and so little in Edinburgh when these cities are only 40 miles apart? FENIANS THAT IS WHY! Fk u Julie
I'm beginning to form the impression of there possibly being a disproportionate amount of stabbings in London.
The 5 on Sunday morning seemed to be random attacks in the same area. All the victims were from different backgrounds sex and race walking about minding their own business when they were stabbed in the back by a 6ft 3 inch skinny black man. He didn't know them or take their possessions. Not sure how this could have been avoided with or without Tory cuts.
Sounds like a random mentalist rather than someone with any particular agenda. Just a coincidence that the nutter is of ethnicity in this case, I am certain that once he's nicked there will be bleeding hearts claiming that he wouldn't have fallen through the cracks of the mental health system if it wasn't for austerity. Might even chance it to say it's 'cos he's black that he never got the treatment he needed.
