Well, Maggie B told me I ought to use this song (hymn!) to celebrate our entry into the new stadium, so I had little choice, really. But Maggie, you said I should use Elvis’s recording. And the only Elvis version I could find was attached to that song about Dixie, and omitted the verses entirely. So I’ve hunted elsewhere, found these words, and this recording (not quite the same verses, sorry!). Hope it’ll do. Come on, everybody, lets get this Spurs show back on the road! Mine eyes have seen the glory of the brand new White Hart Lane; And when we play the Palace there we’ll win at home again, With goals from Dele Alli, Son and two from Harry Kane, The Spurs go marching on. Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah! The Spurs go marching on. And we know the team were gutted by that Liverpool defeat; And the Palace are the kind of team we simply have to beat; So we must bounce back, to win in style - I’ll be there in my seat! The Spurs go marching on. Glory, glory, etc I have seen them from the viewpoint of half-empty Wembley stands; They have struggled with the atmosphere which alienates their fans; You could almost hear a pin drop when we sing and clap our hands; The Spurs go marching on. Glory, glory, etc In the middle of N17 it’s there for all to see: It’s a glorious new stadium built for this century; And I hope that you will be there too, and sing along with me, When Spurs go marching IN! Glory, glory, etc Prediction: Spurs 4 Palace 0 Scorers: Kane 2, Alli, Son Cheers, Spurf!
Thank you so much Audrey especially for remembering! It seems a long time ago that I mentioned it! I did actually mean the Elvis one (Land of Cotton) as I go weak at the knees when he sings Glory glory hallelujah to me (unlike wine I get worse with age ) but I loved this version too. Your words are so good, I don't know how you do it every week. Thanks again Audrey & lets drink to a fabulous new ground and back to winning ways COYS
I’m sure you’ll be watching on tv, so I’ll give you a wave. I know they’re not doing the match as a whole, but somebody is sure to do highlights! Look out for me...... I’ll be the one in blue and white...... And thanks for your kind words! COYS!
