Thanks. As I'm a light user I'm sort of relying on the manufacturers not making a machine that will only last a short time. If I knew that I downloaded like mad and also had a load of stuff to store, I'd be looking at different necessary features.
My laptops stopped charging unless the cable is in a very particular way and even then it’s hit and miss. Got it fixed just under a year ago but has now gone again. Don’t know if I should get it fixed again or just give in to a new laptop. Only really use it for watching stuff on
Have a look at https://www.ebuyer.com you generally get reviews by people who know what they're talking about.
Thanks for the advice. I usually look at the reviews once I've got a shortlist of whatever it is I'm looking for. This has made me think though because with laptops I don't know where to start. You lads have really helped me
I recounted the sad tale of my hard drive going tits up last week. I don't want to replace my laptop until the end of the year, but didn't want to fork out too much on a new drive either if I am eventually going to replace it. Fortunately a friend who interferes with computers a lot had an old 1TB Sata which he donated to me out of pity. Most people seem to be moving over to SSD so there are some homeless yet perfectly serviceable HDDs wandering around.
If it’s just a charge cable issue can’t you find a replacement cable for not too much ? Got a feeling my Mac one is headed that way since all the coating has come away nearest the end that goes in the laptop and the wires are now thinning. Wrapped the area in electrical tape but that’s coming away now.
It sounds to.me like the laptop itself is the connection issue. frankly some are total ****. Lenovo had a great connector
Piece of piss to fix if you are good with a soldering iron and know part number for charging connector if thats the issue. Hate taking laptops apart though so fiddly. Give me desktops any day lol.
it's probably one with a pin in middle and metal ring on outside and the charger port has opened up. I don't care what anyone says. they are just not made for people to be linking them round at home watching tv or whatever cos they get left on beds and sofas and put side forces on those connections. I bought myself an acer for college I did and regretted it instantly as the connector was just like that. it's sat in a bag since I had a Lenovo at work recently and it had a great charger. big square connector. now I've a up which has a usb 3/thunderbolt connector and imo it's just like mobile phones. it will go 100%
As has been said, you need to work out what it's going to be used for. Yep agree,my missus has a Lenovo and the connector is a rectangle plug which is solid.
Yeah think it was just the connector had got lose and stuff. Annoying it’s happened second time though. Work laptop is a Lenovo with a usb charging port which def seem to be a lot better
If the laptop is as good as dead because of this anyway, and the laptop is past warranty... Why not pop open the case? You might be able to fix this with a dab of solder. (Or as Americans called it "sodder" ) I've fixed a tablet that stopped charging this way.
£15 a person to go to the top of the Liver Building. EFC's ground will be paid for in no time at all!!!
I asked my wife to pick up some ingredients for pho... She came back with a puppy. I told her that that was a little too authentic for my tastes. If I had to guess, it's a black lab/ beagle mix. Super docile dog, which is what we needed since we have cats (and they aren't accustomed to dogs). She doesn't have a name yet.
