I'm sorry, do I need to use a larger font so you stop missing the point? Not at any price as the most interest anyone showed in Janssen and GKN was a loan move, but don't let the facts get in the way of your Narrative
Ok I’ll play. I DONT BELIEVE FOR ONE MOMENT THAT THEY ARE NOT SALEABLE AT A PRICE. JUST NOT AT THE PRICE LEVY WANTS.
TBF this could be a much down to the issues with the players around fitness (and, to be blunt, quality), and maybe wages too, as much as Levy haggling for a price, but that’s the point I think others are trying to make. We’ve proven that we are willing to deviate from only buying young and selling for profit in recent years if circumstances allow and demand for it. We could probably have found a buyer for either player for peanuts just to get them off the books, but the players have to want to sign that contract with the buying club. Not much Levy and Poch can do to convince them to leave beyond what they’re already doing IMO.
I agree with that. I think the problem is that Levy slaps a price on a player and, knowing how difficult he is to deal with, potential buyers don’t bother to look any further. Most players would get tired of not playing for months on end and be happy to move to get game time. But I guess some just aren’t bothered.
Top of the range training facilities and now a world class stadium but zero interest in spending on the team. I prefer the collateral their actions cause than the collateral of our owners. Uncle Joe is a Tax exile he has no problems putting his moral compass in his back pocket for the good of his wallet
I guess I need to keep repeating myself... Not at any price as the most interest anyone showed in Janssen and GKN was a loan move, but don't let the facts get in the way of your Narrative When nobody shows any interest in buying a player, that player does not get sold. It really is not that difficult to understand - unless you're actively going out of your way to not understand it.
It's been happening for years and years... ridiculous prices for **** players. If the fans haven't spotted that yet...then they never will. and on the flip side he will argue the toss over a million or so in this multi billion pound industry and as a result we miss out on improving the team. Zero interest in the team
You can argue the toss about them two rejects if it helps but we know Danny boy's philosophy when it comes to selling our players.
I think this is the key part. Janssen just seems to definitively not have the ‘elite mentality’ that others talked about upthread, and GKN seems like a lovely guy but just nowhere near our level. Ultimately I think Levy would sell them both for peanuts if he could but Janssen seems to utterly lack ambition for his career, and GKN is proabably trapped by his wage packet being unaffordable for a club of his level (think lower French League 1).
Any player is saleable at a realistic price. The only possible stumbling block is the player’s refusal to move. Not, as you’re claiming, that absolutely nobody was interested. But don’t let those facts get in the way of your narrative!
There is exactly zero evidence that Levy has anything to do with setting sale prices. If our scouts/recruitment team don't know what players are worth then they are not doing their job. The problem is the one I mentioned earlier: if a little while ago you recommended spending 20m on Janssen, what credibility do you have if you now say he is worth zero. And to be honest he can't be worth zero so it would be stupid to sell him for zero.
You don't improve anything by wasting money. Our squad has the biggest difference of any club's between it's current value and what we paid for it. That's solid evidence that we mostly get things right.
Do we? We have made a loss on five out of the seven Bale signings. As soon as Poch lost faith in them they were gone.
Last summer there were no bids for Jansen because he had been injured since January, and this January he was just about fit to start training again - so why would anyone have made a bid of any substance for that player in either window - if he is still at Tottenham in August (which I doubt), and there has been interest reported then it maybe correct to make the assumption that we want too much for him.
When a player is a winger who barely played on a loan spell at Burnley or a striker who has barely scored any goals in two seasons and missed half of last season with an ankle injury, there is no such thing as a realistic price because nobody is interested in signing them on anything other than a loan for reasons that should be exceptionally bleeding obvious - or to put it another way... Not at any price as the most interest anyone showed in Janssen and GKN was a loan move, but don't let the facts get in the way of your Narrative The philosophy of how, if nobody is making a bid for a player, they don't get sold? I think you'll find that's pretty universal not just in football, but literally every other business on earth
Absolutely. I pointed this out pages back and... Big Vic is done; Lamela has had major surgery and may also be done; GKN is on a wage way in excess of his abilities and happy to go on loans but isn't giving up the money; Aurier is on a wage way in excess of his performance levels and trouble. We may have overestimated Mousa Dembele's value but that's about it.
Don't suppose I can copy/paste this and use a larger font for those who keep regurgitating complete nonsense?
