    After Ken Clarke came within three votes last night with his option, put forward as one of the four, I believe we have a serious contender to break the deadlock, one that is worthy of a thread of it's own.

    For anyone in doubt over the last three years, you ought to take 1 minute and 24 seconds of your life to watch the following video - It's Ken Clarke warning over two years ago, where we would be today, back in January 2017.

    Watch Boris heckling him on the front bench from around 25 seconds;

    I've added our own house poll to gauge whether you would vote for his option to break the deadlock, clear the lobby, division;

    Unlock!

    Great speech!

    It’s also what a few of us here have said all along. The undeliverable promises of Boris, Fox, Davis we’re just that. Undeliverable. It was pie in the sky dreaming.

    Looking back, I don’t think we realised just how uninformed, naive, and unrealistic this stupid administration were.

    Would prefer another poll option that includes No Treaty that ties us to the failed federalist experiment.

    His customs union option doesn't solve a thing and Mays withdrawal agreement still has to go through as part of Ken Clarkes option.

    It's basically replacing the words 'Facilitated customs arrangement' with the words 'A customs union' in the non legally binding future trading relationship, but still passing Mays withdrawal agreement with it's backstop ( which is remaining in a customs union) and future commitments.

    Doesn't solve the issue of regulatory alignment and doesn't remove the backstop in the withdrawal agreement. Anyone seeing this as a solution is fooling themselves.

    I think a lot of us are predicating our opinions on this on a must leave basis.

    Obviously, there is no better deal than the one we have. And as you know, my favourite option is a people’s vote - as it has been for well over a year.

    However, if Parliament simply won’t allow a second vote on this, then we have to leave in the least damaging way possible. In those circumstances I’d go for the Norway or Norway plus option, or whatever they want to call it.

    No Clarke’s proposal isn’t that great, but it’s better than many of the alternatives. And if something half sensible can gain traction, and subsequently a majority in Parliament, then better that than a crash out no deal.
