There were quite a few dodgy groups rubbing shoulders yesterday, prominent among them the delightful Tommy Robinson’s UK Independence Party, the English Defence League, UKIP, and Leave Means Leave, Fromage’s lot. Any gathering which embraces far-right thugs is almost certainly going to incite trouble, especially given the hate-filled language coming from the speakers. A stark contrast with last Saturday’s vastly larger affair, which was completely good humoured from start to finish.

    Disgraceful, to be honest.

I keep hearing that not everyone that voted leave is a racist etc... but everyone that’s racist did vote leave, so you’re rubbing shoulders with that ideology regardless of your intention.

And by their reckoning , anyone who disagrees with their narrow, bigoted view is a traitor. No room in their world for tolerance or pluralism.

So where did I or anyone on here call you or anyone a traitor?? Why is our view bigoted?? You believe we don’t have tolerance despite the harsh words that have been expressed by some of you regarding our opinion??
Sorry chilco that is a bit over the top mate!!!

To be honest that is a label that has been put on people because they are fed up with people from other countries being allowed to walk in to the country with out a job. No doubt there are some racist people but to be classified the same is just plain stupid.

They can only stay for 3 months and can't claim benefits like jobseekers etc. unless they find work and become settled.
People seems to assume based on their status that they are a drain on our economy and services when they are the ones making up for our increasing number of retirees and helping pay for it.

It's not racism as it's not based on race but its something similar.

I've been fortunate to have worked and travelled in a number of EU countries, where the rules were enforced as below.

Since 2004 European Union law has allowed governments to control movements of EU citizens as follows: EU citizens may freely circulate for three months and then require them, should they want to stay longer, to show they are working (employed or self-employed), a registered student or have sufficient resources (pension, savings) to support themselves and comprehensive sickness insurance by way of a valid European health insurance card or have private health insurance. The UK is one of the few governments that has not implemented this. For six years Theresa May was in charge of the Home Office responsible for immigration, yet did nothing to adopt these conditions. Why not, and why was immigration allowed to dominate the referendum and is still being paraded as a big problem? Yet another failure of our own government and the Home Office under Theresa May is being blamed on the EU. The remedy was always in the UK’s hands

On another related note, my wife and I received our temporary residence permits for The Netherlands to cover the period of 15 months after (if/when) brexit happens. We've been assured by Dutch immigration that due to our long term residence and qualifying circumstances we will be issued with new, reworded permanent residence ID cards during that time without need for any further applications. More here from IND https://ind.nl/en/Pages/Brexit.aspx . There's also a possibility of dual nationality. https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2018/...odernised-dual-nationality-plans-next-spring/.

On Saturday, a Brexit supporter sent me a poster, in messenger, reminding people to turn their clocks “back” (that’s right, back not forward- duh), which stated that they were turning theirs back to “1940 when this country had some balls”.
I am guessing that there is an attempt at humour, but how anyone would suggest that it would be better to live at a time when we were at war, rather than at a time when we are at peace, is beyond me.
Maybe I am being over sensitive.

Not only a time when we were at war, but when we had no NHS, no Welfare State, no equality between sexes, no legalisation of homosexuality, no legislation against racial discrimination, no minimum wage. I could probably go on and on.

Don’t get me wrong, there is a huge amount that needs fixing in this country: child poverty, homelessness, the need for hundreds of thousands to rely on food banks, gang violence, organised crime, and people trafficking are just some, but why would anyone in their right mind think we were better off in 1940 than we are today?

It’s no good Ides. Theresa was filmed leaving church yesterday; she’ll have been in there giving God his instructions for the week.

I’m truly glad that your future is assured in the country of your choice. I hope the people that have come here from the EU feel the same way. I also know that some of the Europeans that have adopted our country have not been welcomed. I was only trying to air a view of the various views other people have on the subject. I agree they were probably misinformed. However racism was not on my mind or others that I know who voted to leave. I take exception to anyone who suggests otherwise.

A fraudulent referendum. Revoke article 50. £61K fine what bollocks is that? Anyone in public office found to be colluding with this should be barred for life. Are there no anti corruption laws that the perpetrators could face?

If you don't want to be unjustly tarred Beddy, join us Remainers. It makes sense. After all the referéndum was a sop put to people in order to sate blood thirsty Conservatives divide and rule. The "leave" side of the argument put it as "taking back control." A simple but effective message. What people should have asked, is what am I as an individual, taking back control of, when I neither had control of whatever it is that I am taking back control of, in the first place. Never mind the "We are taking back control of our borders and all that nonsense," ask yourselves what am I taking back control of, and the answer is nowt!!
