    Eh?

Both them and City are streets ahead of everyone this year mate. You've got a top 4 battle to worry about and are closer to Arsenal than you are Liverpool.

Maybe it's the 14 more goals we've scored or the 15 less goals conceded?

Yes, if Lloris had been dropped then likely Gszza would not have made any mistakes against Dortmund but could have conceded four goals that Lloris saved. Then we would have lost to Arsenal with him not saving the penalty. But all good because he didn't make any mistakes.

On the other hand if we play the maybe game perhaps gazza would have made some more saves and you would have got more than 1 point in 15

If an outfield player makes a string of mistakes, most fans would agree it's time to drop him so he can work on his game, get himself together and more importantly, give another player a chance instead who's worked hard in training and deserves a place in the team.

Why then are goalkeepers like Lloris given a free pass whilst Gazza has to continually warm the bench whilst observing his team-mate make mistake, after mistake without repercussions?

Surely that would be very demoralising and shows favouritism?

That's called favouritism isn't it Spudulike? That's "Rank has its privileges."

    I do not agree mate.

Liverpool are way ahead of us defensively...think they've conceceded 16 less than us. They are way more consistent shown by only losing once whereas we have lost 10 times... 4 in the last 5.
For all the talk of luck and decisions it doesn't change our short comings.

I think that there are two extremes in this debate and the truth is being missed because fans are frustrated.

Yep. He’s made too many basic mistakes for me - crucial ones too. His own defence look nervous every time he goes for the ball.

Gazza deserves his chance and perhaps dropping Lloris might wake him up.

Exactly right. Pochettino sees all our goalkeepers every day and has access to all the stats. I trust his judgement on who to pick.

Lloris has been making around 3 big mistakes a season ever since we signed him. However I think he makes at least five saves a season that most other goalkeepers would not. So on balance he's worth his place. Poch will drop him when the time is right. Probably in two or three years time.

Seriously I think the apologists and most of our players could do with some hypnotherapy to overcome their demons

Having now seen Pochettino's comments after the game I think people on here have taken his heroes comment out of context. He said quite clearly the loss was not the same as Burnley or Southampton because we played well at Anfield and dominated the second half. He said, we need to see the players as heroes. We still have the top 4 in our hands.

He makes the mistakes at pivotal moments in other words he loses his **** at moments a captain shouldn't...we need to up our standards of leadership. No amount of number shuffling can hide the psychological influences an individual has in game.

Kane is the only one or a bit left field for some but Rose would be my choice of captain...when you cut through the things he has said about us it comes down to the fact that he thinks we should be doing better and having higher standards...that's a good start for me.

    Agreed.

He panics, or gets himself in a fluster. You can see it, the wild throws, the wayward kicks. It can hardly give the defence confidence when they see their captain panicking.

If you can’t stand the Heat!........

Not doubting your support...you probably doubt mine though even though I've been supporting Spurs for 37 years out of 43...however that doesn't mean I'm nodding my head at everything and always having an excuse lined up

You might have gone to games and shouted that just like the Spurs badge used to have 'Audere Est Facere' underneath it once upon a time too.

Yesterdays match has really polarised opinions here and whilst I tend to be a glass half full sort of person I have found myself more in tune with the less positive posters on this occasion. This will be a long post I apologise if you doze off before the end.

I posted in the immediate aftermath that we were robbed, but we weren’t really, it was actually a fairly low quality match that we had to chances to win that we didn’t take, and then gifted them a goal that their late pressure meant was always on the cards.

We must all be frustrated now, no matter how positive we generally try to remain. We have actually played well on very few occasions this season and the gap we opened to 4th earlier in the season was actually flattering us when compared to the actual performances, and now that the gap has gone we are really going to struggle to make 4th in my opinion.

Signing no players and relying on a relatively small group of players many of whom have barely had a break for 2 years is now looking a very bad decision, and one that many here have criticised on numerous occasions.

But most worrying is the form of the players that we do have and not just in these recent matches but across the whole season. If we look at what most would consider to be our best players only 2 in my opinion can be considered to have matched or improved on their performances in previous seasons, Sissoko who let’s be honest started from a very low benchmark and Winks, who may not be at the level we really require, but has been consistently adequate when he has played (and was missed yesterday). Moura doesn’t have a previous season really so I will treat him as a new signing who has been good at time but needs to be more consistent. Players like Sonny, Jan and Harry (K), have been close to the levels they reached previously In Jan and Harrys case those levels are harder to retain, but that’s what is required for us to make progress. Sanchez is a work in progress who has probably just about matched last year but we need him to be improving. Alli and Dier have missed too many matches and the stop/start nature of their seasons makes it difficult to judge where they are but for me Alli is the key player our best performances have all been with him in the side.

Everyone else has been a model of inconsistency. Neither Eriksen or Alderweireld really look like they really care anymore, the issue with our full backs has been done to death here, as has our lack of options in central midfield.

So we have 7 matches left 5 in our home, and that is now going to be the key, how do we react to the playing in a new venue. Wednesday night is now key win on Wed and there is no new stadium issues and we can push for the top 4 finish we need, lose or draw and we can start planning for the Europa which no one wants.

Poch needs to know his best side now and play them – His best team will not match many of ours, but we must get behind them regardless of who he picks get the new stadium rocking and support our team as if our lives depended on it.
