Exactly what Patrick "It wouldn't be such a bad thing if the UK completely lost its manufacturing base" Minford has espoused for years. And yet Brexiteers who bemoan the loss of manufacturing, industries and factories in Barnsley, Hartlepool, Newport et al consistently hold him up as a champion of the poor, oppressed working-class in their fight against the 'Global Elite'.

Theresa May’s Cabinet was in open warfare today — led by the minister whose job it is to enforce discipline.
In an extraordinary interview, Chief Whip Julian Smith said the Prime Minister had made a massive “strategic” mistake by failing to pivot to a softer Brexit after losing her majority in the 2017 general election.
His backing for a soft Brexit is likely to widen Tory splits as independent-minded MPs prepare to hold a second day of votes in the Commons to choose a Plan B to replace Mrs May’s blueprint.
It is almost unprecedented for any Chief Whip to break the omerta of the whips’ office by giving an interview because their job as Commons enforcer is carried out in private.

Clemens Fuest, head of the Munich-based Institute for Economic Research (Information and Forschung, IFO), warned on Monday that a hard Brexit could push Germany into a recession. In an interview with public broadcaster Deutschlandfunk, Fuest said that if the UK leaves the European Union with no deal, “that could be the drop that causes the keg to overflow” as far as the German economy is concerned.
“That could take us from weak growth to a light contraction in the economy,” Fuest said. “And we would call that a recession.” He added that the contraction would not initially be reflected in the employment market, but it could also become problem there too in the mid-term.
Germany’s Council of Economic Experts recently slashed its 2019 GDP growth forecast to 0.8%, from 1.5% in November. They warned that the country’s economic boom was over for the time being, but said they did not expect a recession for now, thanks to a healthy domestic economy.

I have never come across a PM who has so openly put the welfare of her party before that of the country. She has done everything possible to satisfy the ultras of the ERG to the detriment of the rest of the Tories. Even when they kick her and dump on her she remains their lapdog. It’s as if because she was a remainer converted to leave she had to go the extra mile. The extra zeal of the converted.

Her red lines were simply ridiculous. She behaved and still behave as if she’s got a majority of 100 in the commons. Never seen any politician never mind a PM so divorced from reality.

So now labour are supporting a norway "style" model

    Thats called the EEA.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Under the Common Market 2.0 proposal, the UK would leave the EU, but retain freedom of movement and make contributions to the EU Budget.

Other proposals include a customs union, a referendum and a no-deal exit.

The SNP are also proposing to back the Common Market 2.0 motion, put forward by Tory MP Nick Boles.

But the PM's spokesman said ending free movement was a "very important factor" for the public when voting for Brexit, so they would oppose it.

Shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry, speaking to the BBC's World at One programme, refused to say whether Labour's position on free movement had changed.

When asked if she was compromising on freedom of movement, she said "we are trying to pull the House of Commons together".

Theresa May tried to get MPs to back the withdrawal agreement element of her deal on Friday, but lost by 58 votes - having already failed twice to get support for her overall deal in Parliament.

She now has until 12 April to either seek a longer extension to the deadline or decide to leave the EU without a deal.

The cabinet is now split over whether to move to a softer deal that could mean including a customs union in her plan."
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

they can call that what they like but in the real world its called the EEA.

MPs set to debate six-million-signature petition
A petition calling for the UK to stay in the EU, which has amassed more than six million signatures, is due to be debated in Westminster Hall from 16:30 BST.

The petition, demanding Article 50 be revoked, is the most popular since Parliament's petition website launched.

Two others will also be discussed. One, demanding a new referendum, has over 180,000 signatures. The other, urging MPs to "honour the referendum result", has more than 170,000.

Addressing the DUP in the hopes of getting their backing, Ken Clarke says he is a unionist and this motion doesn't damage their position.

But Nigel Dodds says the customs union doesn't go far enough alone to help address the problem of a potential hard border of the island of Ireland.

    #calledit DUP are utter ****s!

    That is utterly ridiculous.

That is profounding and utterly deluded.

a customs union doesn't address the DUP's problem... well obviously not as it doesn't creat a hard border wall 18 foot high painted orange with red hands all over it or whatever the **** they want <laugh>

Do the DUP even know what a customs union is?

This is all one colossal double bluff by DUP. They want a hard border. Voting against everything whilst claiming they don't want a hard border knowing full well if it's No Deal they will get one.

Here's what will happen, none of them will get enough votes.

This is what happens when you don't have a majority and can't even get your own party to vote as one.

Theresa May’s warring cabinet ministers will once again be instructed to boycott Monday night’s indicative votes, as MPs make a second attempt to coalesce around an alternative to her Brexit deal.

The prime minister had suggested she would “engage constructively” with the indicative votes process, set up by a cross-party group of MPs led by the former Conservative minister Sir Oliver Letwin.
But Downing Street sources confirmed that the government will whip Conservative MPs to oppose the business motion kicking off Monday’s votes.

    Shes already lost thst vote.

At this point any semblance of Tory discipline is gone and anything could happen.

Basically the issue now is Ken Clarke won't be supported by Labour cos labour have the exact same bloody proposal.

Then Tories won't vote for labour one cos it's out of question.

    It's idiocy
