Massive three points. Played well................until we scored. Then the alamo started. Strong ref today, got a lot of respect for him.
By my reckoning Brighton woke up about the same time as you did! You know what to do in future games H!
Hopefully Cardiff will be demoralised. It was an unexpected blow 3 weeks ago when they came of the pitch to find we'd turned it around against Spurs. Now to see all their rivals (except Brighton!) win must be a bugger. Well worked goal as well
Think I'll need some sleep aids - no idea what I'm going to do in 2 weeks for the Wolves game though...
Brighton were never in it until Danny went off, then we started to lose a bit of composure and rushed possession instead of keeping cool heads. We will get better at seeing out games when we have a narrow lead in time with the more games that we win and I loved the shape of the team today and the extra CB wasn't needed. Stuey was the MOTM and a great little finish from Pierre. Oh and, I don't know if anyone mentioned this but that was a silly yellow for JWP....
It was a good yellow for me. We were under the cosh, and he did it in such a slow obvious manner, but getting the ball into the saints fans lost more time. And it was funny!
Not only will Brighton be battered out of the cup next week, they are now also the side Cardiff are chasing! What a fantastic day!
I may well have set a new PL record today. I am in Spain, six miles away from the nearest bar showing the game. My two young daughters wanted to go swimming. Naturally I indulged them rather than make the epic twelve mile round trip. The precocious pair declared that the water was simply "Too cold" approximately three seconds into our pool experience, itself some twenty minutes before kick off. Number one then went to the gym with Mummy. Magic, I think. Time for a stream! Then number two states that she requires the iPad to watch Vroomies because her sister is being granted such unthinkable delights as a trip to the gym. My record? I refreshed the BBC Sport page 4476 times during the match. What an afternoon! COYR!
I think that the goal must now be to catch Bournemouth. Even if I am generous to Cardiff in this assessment, I think that they will beat Chelsea tomorrow and pick up wins against Brighton Fulham and Palace. That would put them on 40 points. I feel Saints will beat Wolves, Bournemouth and Huddersfield and pick up a point at Newcastle, which , by my reckoning, will see us at 43 points. Being pragmatic, I think we will finish about 3 points clear and Brighton will still finish below us. It was a terrific and unexpected win for us today and, if I am wrong about tomorrow's Chelsea game, will probably see this as the decisive weekend in determining our anticipated survival. To make up a 5 point difference in 8 games is not impossible but it will present a challenge for Cardiff. This is the second season in a row where we have flirted with relegation and I hope that the squad is seriously overhauled in the summer and rebuilt in a fashion that makes a third relegation battle an impossibility. We have had some good results since Christmas despite not picking up more points in certain games. The current squad needs to be reassembled around our more capable players and I would like to imagine that next season the defensive frailties and lack of goals will be addressed. We really need to get back on track in 2019/20 after three disappointing seasons.
For me, today means we can now enjoy next friday's game against Liverpool. No new targets required, one game at a time, but boy is the pressure off tonight! Well done Sir Ralph of Alp-land.
Gunn, Valery, Bedders, Romeu, JWP, Stuey (McDonald) are all regulars now that weren't in the team before Ralph came. The results under him are much improved and I can't see the team getting a major overhaul in the Summer, just tweaking a bit in key areas. There is a real pathway from the Academy to the first team now too.
