He’s 14, still at school, near me... wanted a club in striking distance. Not saying he isn’t a talented lad, but in practical terms it was us or boro if leaving Sunderland.
Think its the experience of working under Bielsa and maybe Pep actually put a word in too? Anyone remember when Ferguson went to Brazil and brought back the Fabio twins who were 15 at the time. They bought a house for the parents and got a job for the dad, and basically set up for life. Arsenal, Chelsea and all the big clubs do it. Remember when our Directer of Acadmeny left Leeds and crossed the Pennines to boss the Man City Academy, he took with him our main scout who had all the contacts for schools and boys clubs and he poached loads of kids who would normally have come to Leeds. But Bates had mothballed everything to do with talent at TA - Medical centre, education, boarding....... Seems Orta and Bielsa are building it all up again
I'm guessing we've offered a realistic prospect of progressing to the 1st team rather than watching 50 million plus signings being bought to block his path
Isn’ His folks said pretty much that and that they wanted a team near by. He’s 14 guys. Great to have him and all that but how many junior internationals make it? Not many. They’re usually the early maturers. Not trying to piss on the parade, just a bit of perspective.
Quite right. In my opinion the press put labels on kids so young, wonder kid, etc heaps far too much pressure on them
