Perception is key and has been for generations. He knows the public perception of him is such that he's virtually unelectable, something which has been shown by him struggling to put a dent in a government which looks a shambles. If he has proper self-respect he would have stepped aside but alas he has not.

I disagree. Normal can be used to comment on what is objectively common or subjectively correct. It wasn't at all clear what you meant. My question was "So people who aren't white and/or Christian aren't normal?" and your answer was "To most Americans Muslims transsexuals and hardcore man hating feminists are not normal.". That's fair enough I guess. Only 1% of the country is Muslim and transvestites/ transgenders are a small minority too so if by "not normal" you mean they don't make up a large demographic then you are indeed correct. How I read your original post, and with written word you can't work out tone, was that you were suggesting that transvestitites/Islam/anti-feminism were all just wrong but I'm now not sure that's what you meant. Phrases like "It's not normal" certainly have more than one interpretation and I wanted to clarify what you meant. It's certainly true though that to most Americans they aren't the norm so fair enough I think I just misunderstood your point. Glad to have sorted it.

The answer, from the time I lived over there anyway, is that Trump represents what a lot of white middle class secretly America thinks. There’a a hell of lot of prejudice against other races and religions in middle America.
