It's possible that it is a move envisaged to entice a player or two to sign a new contract and/or sign in the summer. But yeah, probably it's just a pointless announcement that now means if results go pear-shaped in the next few weeks instead of people saying how he's still done a good job as caretaker manager overall they'll point to how he shouldn't have the permanent job. Fun.

Even so, the pressure is now on to get top four and/or win the CL. If he does neither, they will be on to him. United fans are fine wit it, I personally just think it's been rushed for no reason.
Interesting to see how this goes. He has been excellent for United but the real hard work starts now. When they have a wobble how will he and his team react and will the media be quick to put the boot in?

Top 4 is a bonus imo, if we get it then great. We had no right to be in the mix before he turned up. Transfer targets need to know who they’ll be playing for. End of the season makes no sense on that front.
