I honestly do genuinely share that fear - even with my Remain tendencies. IF there was another referendum and Remain won, I’m under no illusion that everyone would simply get on with their lives in harmony. Whatever happens this will rumble on and on. The difference with your examples though Ashtonred is that if we don’t like the elected government we get a chance to vote for a replacement in 4 years time. With this there is no way back. Also, it may be relevant or not, but with our ‘first past the post’ electoral system we quite often see a minority government - in seats or votes. I wish this whole thing hadn’t happened. It’s been a disaster all along. I just hope that it all works out - the referendum result for me has been like someone else telling me I have to bet my house and belongings on a horse recommend as a certain winner by Boris and Farage. Not betting is not an option. Once the race starts, I have to hope the horse wins - just like we all do - and if it does i’ll Party hard in celebration - but it hasn’t started yet!!!
I voted leave, but it was a close call, I have no issue with staying, however leave won , if we don’t leave I really do fear for democracy in this country and that scares the cr&p out of me. There’s nothing stopping us reviewing the question later , I’m sure they’ll let us back for the bucks we’d bring to the table.
I was listening to the radio earlier, when it was pointed out " how will just the banks of France and Germany be able to bail out Italy in the next year or so without the UK when it goes tits up and drags down the EURO MARKET" ?
some interesting points will be raised in the next 24 hours hopefully it will be a free for all on the paper vote and in secret, the MP for area will not get my vote, has pretty much voted against everything without considering she was elected to fulfil the wishes of the electorate ...leave … yes YES . Kerry McCarthy … YOU HAVE OBSTRUCTED every move made .. and at least 11 of those sucked in to voting for you last time wont next time …...
May has now said she will resign after Brexit. So, Cameron resigns after losing the referendum, turning his back on his responsibilities to honour the referendum he called. Now May will resign after she delivers ‘some sort of’ Brexit. God knows what. Where is the accountability in all this? Do we still trust these politicians to act on our behalf? Do I fk. We will get left to pick up the remains of whatever May delivers - whilst she joins Cameron in a comfy retirement - probably somewhere in Europe. We will get a ‘wet’ Brexit with all the rules and constraints of Remain, but no influence over the rules. The worst possible outcome. Despite being a (reluctant) Remainer I was very worried about cancelling Brexit for the constitutional reasons others have cited, but now I feel it has to happen - or at least go back to the people to decide (or May will decide - then run like hell) What a mess - you couldnt make it up. This is MY COUNTRY they are screwing. All of them.
If this goes the way I think it is then this country is going to see something it has never seen before. That scares me big time. May and her cronies are going to have blood on there hands. The people voted and voted out,yet these prima donnas in there Ivory tower will have lost the trust of the people across the UK. If they have a conscience they will respect the vote. I really do wonder where this country is heading.
She said she will step down if they back her deal. I don’t know what will happen if it’s not her deal, as they are voting on amendments. I’m looking forward to see what RR is predicting as I doubt anything will happen, just a lot of people pretending to do something.
We’re already there mate. This is uncharted territory. They ought to drag that sorry tw@ Cameron back and FORCE him to fix the mess he caused. He has split the country in two - creating a mess then walking away. I’ve never hated a British politician before as much as I do him. All people who voted for Brexit should hate him even more than me - he facilitated the stage on which Farage and Boris sold you the impossible dream!! If we actually DO get any sort of Brexit, it will be so watered down it will be like Remain but without any of the benefits or any say in the rules. Take back control indeed - if I wasn’t living in this mess I’d find it funny !!!! In case anyone wonders; I voted Remain, but right now I’d take ‘no deal’ rather than a wishywashy half-baked compromise.
They aren’t voting on amendments, they are voting on indicative votes , which are non binding , Teresa May has already indicated she won’t act on them even if they come to an agreement, which is extremely unlikely. She has said she will resign if her deal is passed, if it isn’t she won’t.
They made it clear they would act on the result of the Referendum BEFORE it took place , both major parties also stood on manifestos after the referendum stating they would honour the result of the referendum, which kind of kills that particular argument.
DUP have come out and said they are not backing May at least they have some balls unlike the worms I have voted for 30+ years.
I want to join in, I want to argue my point, I want to highlight all the crap but whats the point, it just gets worse, defunct prime minister, total muppet leader of the opposition and we are all in **** street and I can't defend any of it, now I have got to wait for the next blockbuster. (Joking)
The problem is a majority of MP’s want remain. That’s the bottom line. The Labour Party has been useless, to the point that I’m unsure I could ever vote for them again. They should have left no deal on the table, if nothing else it would have concentrated their minds to agree something, I’ve always encouraged people to vote , believing democracy depends on everyone having their say , but if the way we vote isn’t acted upon whats the point. The whole shananagins is putting me off voting at all, it’s seems MP’s feel they are above the rest of us and know better, maybe they do, that’s not the point , they are there in their privileged position purely to do our will and if they don’t feel able to they should bugg@r off and let someone do it.
The problem in my opinion was offering a simple in/out choice in a referendum without explaining the complexity of the ‘out’ choice. People who voted Brexit expect their vote to be honoured but the politicians can’t deliver. Brexit was not ever expected. Cameron and the Remain campaign were criminally complacent and lost. The rest is history unfolding before our very eyes.
I agree, should never have taken no deal off the table, plus we need that for a bargaining tool later...to be honest, I don't think many of them in parliament have got an ounce of common sense, definitely not interested in the common people, just their own careers IMO.
well, now we can see some of the hypocrisy with no no no no no no no no ! 2 close votes a 70 and rest out of sight ...just goes to show how well TM has actually done, and jermy cor boliks trying to bully his front bench lost 1 or 2? … and this was only 8 of the votes that others had hoped to add to the list [ speaker decided final 8 from?.. ] usually done, because same or similar, just the mp wanting his/her name in lights! NOW it is very clear, that it is not an easy solution if they all want their own way ...but they must stop throwing their toys out of the pram to get their own way there is something like 25 divisions or more amongst MP'S … PROBABLY MORE...…
