My problem wasn't logging in from another device, it all hinged on not remembering my password (and the site still hasn't emailed me a revised one btw despite my numerous requests) having to make a new account and being unable to log out.

I'm still using my phone to access the site. Looking at getting a new laptop soon, can't believe how expensive they are.

They are pretty cheap if you want them to just be functional and not play games. 300 quid could you get a decent one i reckon

    Depends what's decent to someone.

If you are not doing graphics and all that and don't have 5million photos to store a solid state hard drive and 8gb ram on a decent brand that doesn't fall apart I'd ok.

In general you give very little storage space now and the other places they scrimp is graphics cards and ram.

The ones I've looked at that I think satisfy my needs are around £500. Thought about a chromebook because they're cheaper but they don't have some keys like the delete and caps lock which I'd find annoying having to do a work around.

I filled in the 'form', did the captcha jigsaw and everything and was told an email had been sent but it hadn't. I had several go's before realising it was never going to work.

Yep. The email won't be sent. You need to speak to @brb and ask him to reset it for you

One way to save money would be to get one without an OS pre installed
If you have an open mind buy one without an OS then install Linux MInt 19.1 which is free, looks and works very similar to Windozzzze 7. I dual boot with Mint and w8 pro but hardly ever use w8 now as Linux Mint is so much better.
    PS
    W10 is truly awful

    W10 is ****e,

was testing that years ago before it was released to the public. trust me what you have now is a lot better lol.

know people who programme other o/s and get to play with them before you lot end up getting them, some good ones out there.

Makulu is a good one to try, there is 3 versions available. i prefer flash version.

If the old laptop is just slow stripping out windozzzze and installing Linux Peppermint would give it a new lease of life as it's designed with older systems in mind ( although my self build pc is now getting on for 6 years and runs Mint no problem) The forum I use for Linux is run by somebody who helped build Peppermint really helpful fella and uk based.

    Truly awful = ****e...:emoticon-0102-bigsm

Haven't heard of that distro ,I first started looking at Linux as a serious alternative when Ubuntu was first launched but didn't like the set up of it .Then tried Elementary which was an improvement but still didn't float my boat and finally have settled for Mint which when coming over from Windozzze is an easy conversion.

I don't know too much about operating systems and I'm too old to be messing about learning linux etc. I've read that W10 is awful - I was quite happy with W7 but unless you're savvy like you lads you just have to take what it comes with.

Thanks muchly for the advice though <ok>

Honestly, even if you don't like the windows 10 interface, in the long run you're better off updating from 7 for security reasons and up-to-date patching. Patches are more than just windows. Software vendors eventually only start patching based on current OS.

The whole trying to force Cortana on you and the bloated start menu is annoying but it's probably worth dealing with rather than be potentially insecure.
