Why on earth do we need 3 all-weather fixtures of the morrow?!? Answers on a postcard please to the usual address.
My selection at lingers on Monday ran a stinker. I was in the pub watching lingers and noticed most of the winners were front runners.with this in mind in the first today I’m going with the mark johnston truckingby ,who failed to stay 1m2f last time so down in trip today. With two in the field one will go on and hopefully this ravens pass gelding won’t get caught.
2.20 Kath's Boy @ 8/1 This horse ran in a really interesting race last time out, and reopposes Twentysvthlancers again who beat him over course and distance. That race was interesting because Warriors Tale travelled supremely well in the lead and two closers really took the eye, the winner being one and Kath's Boy being the other. Whilst 27Lancers came down the middle, the selection was forced to run down the stands rail, and with two furlongs to run he looked more likely to finish midfield than get within a couple of lengths of the win. He gets a 3lb swing, and more importantly should get a smoother trip in a race where I expect 27L to give him a target to run at, and as such I thought the 8/1 was very overpriced.
3.35 Captain Dion @5/1 This race revolves around whether Marble Bar can follow up his demolition from last time, when he dismantled a fair Southwell field by 7 lengths. Today is a different race and with 12lbs more on his back it should be a very different test. That day he was able to get loose on the lead, crossing over to the rail from wide and then kicking off the turn. Today he has two front runners drawn inside him, and plenty of pace around him too. I think to win today they need to race against the pace, and I don't think they will do it. As such it should set the race up for something, and that something could be the amazingly handicapped Captain Dion. This horse was rated in the 90s for Kevin Ryan before a trip over to Ireland, where he dropped down to 60 for this race. His run at Kempton wasn't devoid of hope and I think this son of Equiano (11% strike rate) can go on the surface for a yard and jockey who do so well with runners at this track.
5.05 Port Soif @ 9/1 An amateur race in which I am not going for a Walker ridden horse, or a Brotherton ridden horse!! Instead its Port Soif ridden by the ex trainers daughter!! The horse showed plenty on reappearance and I think will be cherry ripe for this race. The trip should suit a little better too, and this horse has two wins from three over course and distance!!
Morning Saving the best till the last! 8.30 Kempton-Win on Global Tango @ 9-2 [Unibet] & Each Way on Smokey Lane @ 10-1 [Bet 365]
Bristol De Mai won't be going for the GN (runs in the old Bowl, at the meeting, instead). As a result the weight in the GN to rise by at least 4 lbs. Tiger Roll will now have to carry a minimum of 11-5.
hi all! market rasen,2 10: i am generally rather cautious on penalised horses in novices, but based on his overall form,BENNYS BRIDGE stand head and shoulders over his rivals here, and even his run in the imperial cup wasnt too bad.as for his main rival,ya salaam, hes very much an unknown quantity on his recent form, but not underrated.still, the o brien horse appeals much more to me,despite the cramped odds..
Beware false pace, he’s been found out by being over keen this season and could be again today if going slow.
Gents. Port Soif trained by Richard Hannon, David O'meara, Ken Slack, Dianne Sayer, Scott Dixon Wins for the Slack yard, as Rude has said; Emma Sayer is Dianne Sayer's daughter, so you're both right. ( Source - Racing Post )
From the J column to the T column Phillip Makin has his first as a trainer in the Southwell opener, Scuzeme. ( He rode this to win at Newcastle in 2017, when trained by David Barron; no form to speak of, down the weights, you never know ... )
