I have now rewatched I agree with what a few of you saying now For me it defo offside as he has gained a massive advantage I don’t think it’s second phase at all as nothing has happened Replied to this one of yours IBWT because I think your last line spot on and think Carl said something similar (?) I think it’s been sort of ignored cause of how the goal unfolded but I thought for the second phase to kick in Kane would have to have got back onside before the touch from sterling was made But it wasn’t. As there was such a big gap back to the through ball it just got missed / forgotten Maybe refs had turned off by that point or as you said maybe classing that as second phase That was the bit I needed clearing
It was about what he and his agent did to get the move after liverpool gave him such a great platform to learn on. I remember it, if you don't, I suggest you do some research before claiming otherwise
Nope, he was never going to be a Liverpool legend. If you think that city are just outspending everyone, are they any diffferent to the successful clubs of the past? Show me a dominant team that did it on less than the rest.....they are as rare as he s teeth. Gerard’s a club legend, after pimping himself to Chelsea and getting the deal he wanted in the end. Sterling just moved for his deal
The burden of proof lies with you making the claim. He wasn’t booed aT Goodison, maybe just Anfield? Or Arsenal, Spurs and Newcastle?
I never said he could have been a Liverpool legend. VVD has the possibility. Win trophies, keep up his level and see his time out T Liverpool and he will be up with the great defenders of the past and modern ones like Sami and Carra
But people have is the point... people bandy about terms like legend too easily. Sterling would have to go some to be a city plastic legend like...
I used the term legend rather loosely I admit but it was for lack of time and effort in thinking of another appropriate word. (We did just have a 'legends' game, how many of them are legends? ) I meant more that he could have left with respect from the fans for his effort and commitment. He turned that down.
Nah doesn’t have to get back onside for it to be second phase. I don’t think there is any official rule on it but it’s geberally accepted that if the ball is played wide that’s first play and then cross is second. I totally agree it’s gaining an advantage and guess some would say it’s flever from forward, using looopholes and if it was lfc forward for us I certainly wouldn’t complain. But from a defensive point of view it’s impossible to defend against. Hold a line and its offside, but then they have 4 hrs headstart on you to get back when wide player crosses it in. So what do you do? Go back and mark him and then you’re 4 yards behind rest of your defence, or you all have to drop back rendering the play then offside tactic pointless.
A legend has to be a class above, to do something different. Gerrard carried the team for years, rush scored more than anyone else, dalglish was an extraordinary talent in an extraordinary team. Sterling is an expensive import, to stand next to 10 other expensive imports. He has no affinity to the club. If he left tomorrow, city would just go out a but a replacement, I doubt any one would even shrug.
